Charlie wanted to object to him being 'too old to play' with every ounce of strength she had within her, but she didn't. She had felt the exact same way at the exact same age, and nothing anyone had said to her at the time would have changed her mind. Instead she grinned broadly at his comment about ships.
"I've never even seen a swoop before," she admitted, "but I bet you'd be a natural with one." In fact, that was a bet she'd happily take, what with her knowing the man he'd grow up to someday become.
That thought made just how surreal this situation was hit her like a ton of bricks so, by the time he offered the phone, Charlie was hardly paying attention to the conversation anymore. Glancing down at the phone in partial amazement, she met his blue gaze and smiled. "Good job," she complimented him, her grip on the phone tightening at the sound of the door opening. On her feet in a flash, Charlie turned toward the door and waited for it to open, quickly putting the phone on the couch. That freed up both of her hands and she quickly glanced to Luke, judging just how quickly she'd need to ignite the person coming into the penthouse before they'd pose a threat to the boy. If they turned out to be a foe, of course, but really, who else could it be? His parents were sleeping in the other room... right?
Bracing herself, Charlie reckoned she was about to find out.
