“Excuse me, can I assist you with something, sir.”
He was tapping his fingers impatiently against the front desk and had pounded down on the little bell more times than what seemed absolutely necessary. He couldn’t help it. He’d been standing there for what was it? Three, four minutes now? And still, the woman hadn’t bothered to turn away from her computer screen in order to ask him what he wanted. That was just… rude and uncaring and lazy if you asked him. The least she could have done was give him a polite smile, that otherwise stated that she would be with him as soon as possible. But could she do that? Of course she couldn’t! She was much too enthralled with whatever it was she was reading over to give him a second of her attention.
Oh well, he could stand there, tap and ring the bell for however long it took her to come to his assistance. Honestly, it wasn’t doing a thing to hurt him any.
But wait! Here she was, all annoyed glares and perfect red painted fingernails brushing an array of papers away from the surface of the front desk. Eddie sighed when he heard her acknowledge him, finally, and offered her his finest, nicest smile. “Yes, yes you can. I’m here to speak with Mr. Luthor. I do believe that we had an appointment…”
“One moment please.”
Gosh, could she possibly seem any more unexcited with her job? Or was she giving it her all here? Maybe this was just her personality? Perhaps she was this cheerful all the time? Well, if that were the case, then he would seriously hate to see what she was like in bed… Oh wait, that wasn’t a proper thought! He needed to quit it before he started to sound rude too. Thinking bad-mannered thoughts was okay, but speaking them? That was a whole different story, and he did want to come off as polite here, if anything.
When he was allowed to pass and step into the elevator that would take him to Lex Luthor’s office, Eddie stood graciously beside the man who had been ordered to show him the way.
Through a corridor and right to the closed door was where he found himself standing, waiting for the man to reach out and knock before he hit his age limit and died in the middle of the tidy, carpeted floor…
A fist was collided with the wooden door, and was followed by a, “Sir, you have a guest.” Eddie just adjusted himself to look at the man, with his best civil smile, which faded quickly.
