It had been years, far too many years, but he knew her. Even with the dark hair, there was no mistaking her. Peter leaned, pulled her into a brief but strong embrace, and sat back on his stool, taking a drink from his coffee.
"It's been a long time."
His expression settled back into the stone, hardened look he'd worn for years now. "You mentioned Nathan?" There was no outward indication of the tension clutching his heart at the mention of his brother's name. They hadn't spoken in years, bitter words marking their last communication, but the idea that something had happened to him, something that Peter hadn't known, hadn't been able to stop...
