So basically he sounded like the asshole that Buffy thought he was, but she was keeping that thought to herself. He also sounded like any normal human who had been hurt by a demon. But none of the people here were really normal, and everyone here had done something horrible they needed to be forgiven for, they just apparently were ganging up on one individual. She couldn't really pick sides on this because both parties had a valid point. But she could feel sympathetic toward Ruby.
"We joke because there's not much else for us to do. We try to get along, but really." Buffy shook her head slightly. "Don't let it fool you, things are tense, we've both just learned to try and ignore it until we can't anymore." pushing it away, delaying what ever epic fight was going to eventually come their way. It always came. "And we patrol, because we make a good team. Back in high school, damn, we were good." but being able to kick ass was different than being able to relate.
She had no advice for Ruby, everyone worked differently, everyones path was different. "I guess we're both sort of stuck, then." she said glumly. "But we're here, and it's for a reason. There has to be a reason. And I know there are horrible things coming this way, and most likely coming right to this city because I'm here. And we're all going to be needed to stop it. It's not getting better, it's going to get worse, and from what I hear you're a witch too. So don't count yourself out just yet."
Standing up again, she stretched out a few kinks in her back. "Oh, and the glorious light at the end of the tunnel is a bunch of bullshit."
