FIRST DANCE – Dean & Claire;
Even as the smile grew on her face, the tears sprang to Claire's eyes. It might seem silly to someone else, to put so much significance on a 'simple' whispering of song lyrics, but she knew Dean, her husband. And anyone who met him knew the face that Dean Winchester liked the world to see, which was often far from what he was showing right now. Those 'chick flickish' gestures done so publicly weren't just rare, they were all but non-existent unless they came with a great deal of joking the seriousness away.
I've loved you forever In lifetimes before And I promise you never Will you hurt anymore
So not as an 'ego-saving measure', as she wasn't really thinking of that right now, but as the rightness of the moment – suddenly more right here than any time before in the privacy of their bedrooms – Claire's voiced carried clear and strong as she sang.
"I give you my word, I give you my heart. This is a battle we've won. And with this vow, forever has now begun."
There would never be a forever as they were, but thanks to a boon from God, there would be the sort of eternal forever that she and Dean would have scoffed at a year ago. And until that time, for the undetermined time between his true final breath in the world and her own someday when the boon was called in, that vow would remain just as strongly. He was her last, her forever, and would be even when he wasn't there. Thoughts like that, so clearly seated in 'sad', weren't ones for a 'normal' wedding celebration, but when had they ever truly been 'normal'? And finally, after so many years of struggles with that idea of normal versus 'freak', Claire had come to accept, because of this man and all he was for her, that who and what she was, that who they were, was their 'normal'.
Just close your eyes Each loving day I know this feeling won't go away
"Till the day my life is through, this I promise you."
