Spike should have pretended that the call had never happened. Someone randomly ringing a guy like him up about there being a kid in danger? Right. The entire call seemed off; again, they had called him rather than anyone else in this entire mess of a city, and the voice on the line...well, it felt strange. Spike may not have done the search and rescue thing on a daily basis, but he did know enough about the world to determine that the voice that had whispered the message and instructions to him hadn't been right. Perhaps that was why Spike had decided that he needed to investigate. There was something about the caller that shook him in all the wrong places and if there was a stupid kid out there, it was likely that the person who had called was responsible for whatever mess they happened to be mixed into in the first place.
He probably should have rang up the Hyperion. Rounded in the team, told them to go take care of this mess themselves. Yet the call had seemed urgent and while Spike tended to put on the face of carelessness when he was around most people, he did find a spark of concern poking around his insides. He wasn't the ideal hero, no, but Spike had a heart. Shriveled it may have been, but with his soul back in place it still felt. That kid was too young. Too little. It...he. Or she. Whatever it was? It wasn't ready to die yet. And it would be his fault if that stupid kid died.
"Fucking children," Spike growled, pushing down the gas on his motorcycle. It roared angrily, weaving through the waves of vehicles that stood between Spike and the location he was headed. Why were kids so stupid? Why couldn't they stay in their houses until they were old enough to not get themselves kidnapped? It really pissed him off.
Dismounting his bike outside of the building in which he had been instructed to, Spike pushed his hands through his silver hair and tugged at the collar of his jacket. Right. He had gone all out of his way to get here. Heart was in the right place, Disney was probably off making a movie about how stupid this was, and he was going to see this thing through. If this was all a prank or a stupid game, Spike was going to be furious. All he wanted to do was save the kid, kill whatever had nabbed it, and take off.
Either way, prank or not, he was going to kill something.
