"If he wasn't all right, I'm sure you'd hear about it one way or another," Spike said, shrugging. "Important thing is that he's alive and all that. Shouldn't have to worry about all the rest. You've got a life too." Even if it was a sad one, considering that she spent most of it stalking some man who could have cared less about whether she lived or died. He wished that she was able to see how incredibly foolish this all was, but Spike did understand where she was coming from. Couldn't change the mind of a determined fool no matter how hard one tried. The only alternative was dealing with it as best as one could. She was failing horribly in that regard.
"Because," Spike said, giving Ruby a once-over, "if you don't stop acting like a bloody school girl with an unhealthy obsession, you might end up doing something stupid again. Like trying to break the world. Me? I like the world. It really sucks most of the time, but it has it's perks. Sex, alcohol, violence, daytime TV. I'd hate to lose those things and I don't want to see you go psychotic again in a way that might end up making me do as much."
At least that was the excuse he'd be going with. Spike didn't have to give more reason than that.
