Who: Cho and Cade
What: Cho felt the need to be on the streets
When: October 31, 2003 around 11:30 am
Where: Diagon Alley: Quality Quidditch Supplies
Rating: Likely PG

Cho had rather enjoyed her peaceful night of rest. That was until she opened her journal that morning. It seemed that while she had been soundly asleep others were still experiencing sleepless nights. She couldn't fathom why the Ministry had insisted that the DMLE take the day off when so many were still experiencing something so wrong. She knew that people without proper sleep were likely to do things out of the ordinary.

She tossed a simple robe over her usual work slacks and pull over shirt and headed to Diagon Alley. Cho wasn't sure if she would encounter anything, but something told her that there needed to be more hit wizards on patrol rather than less. Upon her arrival she simply walked up and down the street alert for anything out of the ordinary.

Cade wasn't used to having an unexpected day off. Usually, his days off were carefully scheduled and he had his free hours filled by the time they rolled around. Technically, he would be working later than night at the Gala - a thought that made his lip curl in displeasure - but until then, he had time to kill.

He'd ended up in Diagon Alley by chance. He'd gone to buy a book at his usual shop in Wales, but the owner had said it had been sent to a shop in Diagon by mistake. Instead of waiting for the book to be owled back, Cade decided to pick it up him. Book in his possession, he was just considering the possibilities of lunch when a display had him stopping outside Quality Quidditch Supplies. A sign in the window announced the arrival of some new brooms and while Cade didn't fly as often as he would like, he'd had the same model since he'd played for Slytherin and it was well past time he got a new one.

The Stratus 2100 caught his eye immediately. It was a powerful broom with strong lines, built for speed and maneuverability, and Cade was already imagining taking it for a ride.

Cho wasn't sure what she was actually doing in Diagon Alley. She just knew if felt odd to sit at home when it seemed that there was work to be done. She had paced from one end of the street to the other and was on her way back to her starting point when she decided to take a bit of time to visit what used to be her favorite shop in Diagon Alley.

Before the killings began to pick up during her seventh year, Cho had actually considered auditioning for the Tornadoes. The fall of the Ministry quickly chased any ideas of Quidditch from her mind and she instead found herself simply working to make it day by day. It was the flying she missed more than anything. True enough, she did get to fly occasionally on the job, but foot patrols were more often the norm. She rarely had any time free to enjoy a leisurely flight.

As she approached the store, Cho recognized the frame of a fellow DMLE employee standing before the window. She walked up beside him and her eyes too took in the latest broom to be held in high esteem by the Quidditch community. "It's a beauty," she commented not necessarily to Warrington.

Cade was aware of someone stopping beside him on the street, but he didn't bother looking away from the display. "Mm," Cade hummed in agreement to the female voice, his eyes not leaving the broom in question as he took in every detail. "The Stratus is a fine beast. If you can handle it. I've heard she's got a kick like a thestral." Definitely his kind of broom.

"I'm sure I could handle it," Cho remarked. Her current broom wasn't the greatest and latest, but it flew well. Well enough that she had escaped a couple well thrown hexes the last time she'd used it to chase down a rouge.

"Besides, anyone that can handle those excuses for brooms they have in the training room ought to be able to control a first class one." The brooms the DMLE used for training were absolutely pitiful. They didn't keep their proper speeds and could buck a person off if one wasn't careful. Cho believed it had to be easier to wrangle a good solid broom than those pitiful pieces of wood and straw.

Cade hadn't much interest in who he'd been talking to until she mentioned training rooms. That earned a glance in her direction and it took him a moment, but her name eventually came to him. "Chang," he said by way of greeting, before looking back at the display. "The twigs down in training are nothing compared to the 2100. A child would be able to control those shite excuses for brooms. You'd have a bit more trouble with the Stratus."

He looked to see if the price was readily visible in the window, but he wasn't particularly surprised when it wasn't. A fine broom like that likely cost a small dragon's hoard. Likely the proprietor didn't want to scare potential buyers away with the price before even getting them into the shop. That was fine, though. Cade could afford it. Mind made up, he headed for the door. Maybe he'd fly home instead of apparating.

"Speak for yourself," Cho quipped when he alluded that she'd have trouble with a Stratus. She had flown all her life and was fairly certain she would have no trouble what so ever handling the latest and greatest model. Yes, it was true that when it came to speed the brooms they used for training were simple enough. It was their age and unpredictability that she had been alluding to.

She watched as he turned and headed into the shop. She would like to have seen the Stratus up close, but didn't think it prudent to follow him into the shop. Therefore, she stayed before the window and let her eyes run across the various accessories that adorned the rest of the window.
