Who: Tracey Davis & OPEN
What: She needs a drink
Where: Leaky Cauldron
When: November 18, 5pm
Rating: TBA

Tracey had left work early but went to the Leaky Cauldron instead of going home right away. She had hesitated and thought of going to another pub, but she convinced herself it was the safest place. She hadn't been attacked in the Leaky Cauldron after all. It had been outside in the Alley, and she could just floo home instead of walking home. Well no, Tracey knew she wouldn't go to her flat tonight. She'd go to Theodore's for sure.

She was so anxious and her nerves were shot. She hadn't seen the picture before the papers went out, but Tracey had been terrified to see if when she got to the Prophet for work. That woman... the woman that killed her brother. The drawing staring back at her from the paper. She hadn't told anyone, she hadn't given the Aurors a description, and her name hadn't been mentioned in the article, but that didn't make her worry less. It brought back all the feelings and fears she'd been suppressing, and she couldn't handle it without some kind of relief.

So that's what the pub was far. She took a seat at the bar, and ordered a fire whiskey sour. Tracey took a sip and ended up taking a very generous drink. She'd definitely be ordering a second one.

Ernie was typically one who had difficulties minding his own business with friends but often knew better than to stick his nose into business of strangers outside of work. But lately he felt somewhat undone--something he didn't let his friends in on. Not now while their worlds were falling apart, he wasn't going to let them know the extent of his guilt.

He felt that the need to escape, and felt completely selfish for thinking and acting in such a way. He knew that he should be visiting Dean right now, or should've done so yesterday. But he knew that he needed to be numb for a short while, and he did feel himself move towards that after a gin and tonic or two. It had been a stressful few days so he legitimized that he needed deserved it. He wasn't drunk, per se, but at least somewhat more distant and less inhibited than his usual stick-in-the-mud self.

"At that rate, that's not going to last very long," he pointed out the obvious to the bar patron sitting next to him. She looked vaguely familiar, but he couldn't place her at all. "And that's not the way to solve problems," he added, perhaps looking the part of a hypocrite right then with his drink at hand.

Tracey did know there were people sitting around her, but it took her a moment to realize the voice she heard... was someone talking to her. She turned her head to look at the blonde sitting next to her. Did she know him? Yes... of course she did. They went to school together. Ernie McMillan. He had been in Hufflepuff with Zacharias.

"Making it last isn't really the point," she countered at his observation. Tracey looked at him to see that he had a drink too, so really who was he to judge. "My problem can't be solved. So this is to help me... feel less afraid. Or at least numb what I'm feeling," Tracey said though she didn't know why she was being so honest about it. "Why aren't you taking your own advice?"

"There is plenty out there to be afraid of though," Ernie nodded as if in agreement with her statement about the numbing. His was more of the guilt as opposed to fear. Even though he had plenty to fear himself...as Justin had previously pointed out to him by attempting to capture him and keep him at his home until all was safe.

"I've done what I can, which isn't bloody enough, and now I just need to accept it. Until tomorrow." He did do all that could be done given the circumstances at his position in the Ministry, but nothing was happening. The case seemed to be heading nowhere. They had no leads.

"I'm not talking about generalities. A specific fear. A person rather," she said taking another drink just thinking of the woman that killed her brother. She was out there. People knew what she looked like now. Though it said who drew the picture... would she come back and shut up all the victims she'd left alive?

"So you worked hard, it wasn't enough, so you're drinking since you have that nagging feeling?" Tracey asked. She could understand that. She didn't know exactly what Ernie did, or what was bothering him. But it seemed like there was something to bother everyone lately.

"Oh?" Ernie asked, his interest piqued by this statement. "Why? What happened?" He couldn't or wouldn't turn off his work brain given the slightest bit of an opportunity. His tact and discretion weren't at their best at this moment either.

"Yes. It doesn't do much though just since everything is a mess. I've made a mistake months ago and it's come back to haunt me. And then at least one person out there who I've tried to help just managed to make my--and a number of other friends' lives significantly more difficult," he added referring to Zacharias and the radio announcement. "And not to mention being marked for certain death or something like that," he added, the phrase slipping out rather easily even though he had been rather careful about how he was disclosing the fact that he had suffered from nightmares and the ominous dark spot.
