Entry tags:!status: incomplete, ^date: november 18 2003, character: dean thomas, character: parvati patil

Characters: Parvati Patil and Dean Thomas
Setting: St. Mungo's; Tuesday November 18, 2003, 2:35 PM
Rating: Worksafe
Summary: Checking in on one of her best friends.

Parvati walked into St. Mungo's just like she'd done numerous times, though this time it was for an unhappy reason. Both of her parents having worked there, it was familiar ground to her, and her father was keeping her and her sister updated on Dean's progress they couldn't make it there to see him, but she hadn't heard anything for a while, so she had decided to just make a trip down there to see him for herself, and make sure everything was alright. She'd also stop by to see her father and make sure nothing bad was happening that may have made him forget to send them an update.

She turned the corner, waved at the welcome witch. She'd been there too many times and knew exactly where she needed to go to get into Dean's room. It wasn't a far walk, and when she got there, she stopped just outside the door and took a deep breath. He was getting better, but it still was a bit of a jarring experience to see him so beaten and broken in that bed. She poked her head in just as she continued in with a smile on her face. "Hey mate. Any idea why my father hasn't told me anything about you in a while?"

Dean was hopeful. While his hand wasn't coming along like he'd hoped, the rest of his progress had been pretty good and there was talk of him getting out the next day, provided he came in for continued therapy and took it easy at home. It was also suggested that he not attend many - if any - of the festival events the coming weekend, but Dean had barely responded to that. He wasn't sure if Seamus even wanted to go. For Merlin's sake they still had a funeral to finish planning.

He looked out the window nearest his bed and sighed. One more night in this place and he could go home. Just one more day to get through and then the night. he was so lost in his thoughts he didn't realise someone had come in until a very familiar voice addressed him. Dean turned and managed a smile when he saw Parvati. "Merlin, is it good to see you, Vati." he rolled his left shoulder in a shrug. "I think I've been being a difficult patient of late. No one wants to report that."

He looked better that day, and she was glad of it. It had been worrying her ever since she'd heard he'd gone missing. It was never any good news lately, it was always bad. That was why she'd been trying as hard as she could to control her visions. She walked over and took a seat on the side of the mattress facing him with a bit of a playful scolding look. "You have to be nice to my father. He's only trying to help. You know that."

When her father had told her that Dean was in St. Mungo's, she had begged him to take the case, or get on it to help in any way he could, and he did. He'd taken over as soon as he was able, even though it wasn't the kind of case he specialized in. Then she took a small paper bag from her purse and handed it to him. "Darjeeling, with a bit of jasmine and cinnamon. It should help you feel better while you're healing." She hoped he'd like the blend. She'd only concocted it that morning. "I have one for you and one for Hermione. She's my next stop here. My father told me this morning that she'd been found last night."

Dean was really happy to see Parvati. He wasn't sure if she'd come by, though when he'd seen her father taking a direct interest in his case, he'd wondered if Parvati had asked questions and pulled strings. He'd heard from most of his friends by now and those with free time had come by to see how he was doing.

He took the tea from her gratefully. The shop she and Padma owned was one of his favorites, and he always accepted whatever blends they thought he'd like. They hadn't been wrong yet. "Sound del-" He cut himself off and look up at her in concern. "Hermione? What do you mean found? What's happened?"

Parvati smiled at her friend when he took the tea from her. He was always at the store, trying the new concoctions, or taking their advice on what he might like. Then she saw his face fall when she mentioned Hermione. She assumed he'd seen the messages, but apparently she was wrong.

"She'd gone missing a couple of days ago. That's what Ron said. She was brought here last night." Her face had grown saddened. "I really wish I could get visions when I wanted. Maybe I could help more with finding people, or figuring out these nightmares." With everything that had hit that day, she'd been focusing on her visions, and trying to tap into the eye, that she'd forgotten lunch, which happened a lot when she was working on something. Her stomach chose that moment to growl in its anger of not having been filled.

Dean stared at Parvati in stunned and unpleasant shock. He hadn't really been reading the journals; between having visitors, having check-ins, check-ups, therapy, and having Seamus there all the time, he hadn't much had the time or desire. He wondered now if that's how he'd missed knowing one of his friends had gone missing. Chagrined at being so out of the loop, Dean forced himself to calm down. Parvati said Hermione was here, at Mungo's, which meant she was alive. But he couldn't help thinking, wondering what had happened and what condition she was in.

"What happened? Did...did that witch take her? How is she? Is she all right? Shite, I've got to go and see her." Dean curled his left hand into a fist, wishing he could move his right enough to do the same. "I can't believe I didn't even know.

Parvati stared back at him, not really sure what to say. She'd really thought he would have known about Hermione. "I don't know. Ron only said that she'd been found and was being treated here." She fidgeted a little where she was sitting next to him on the bed. She leaned forward to give him a hug and hopefully calm him down.

"No, you don't need to see her right now. You need to focus on healing yourself. Keep an eye on your journal. We'll keep you informed." With that she moved her hands to his shoulders to keep him in the bed if she had to.

Dean pulled a face and exhaled. "I'm all right Vati. They're letting me leave tomorrow, I should be able to talk a walk and see Hermione. I'm...I can't believe I didn't even know. I should have been paying more attention to the journals, to what was going on outside of these walls." Though really, no one could blame him for not knowing. He was busy recuperating himself. He gave her a one-armed hug when she hugged him but raised his eyebrows when she didn't exactly pull away all the way.

He looked at her hands on his shoulders and shook his head. "You can't be serious. I'm healing fine. You can let go; I'm not about to hop on a broomstick and play Quidditch or anything. I just...want to make sure she's all right."
