Characters: Melinda Bobbins and Theodore Nott
Setting: Hogsmeade Library; Tuesday November 18, 2003, 10:00 AM
Rating: Worksafe
Summary: Random encounter.

Theodore spent his increasingly limited focussed (i.e. awake and in any shape to do work) time to figure out what was going on with him and others affected by the dreams. It had long ago passed from an odd coincidence and inconvenience to what could possibly become fatal. One way or another. If he didn't die at the hands of the witch he just read of in the Prophet, who was the main suspect behind the murders, he figured that he'd likely hurt or kill himself with his work. It doesn't help that in his line of work one "minor" slip-up or instance of poor judgement can make a huge difference.

Having had spent the better part of the morning being sick at the overly realistic image of having each of his teeth ripped out from his jaw slowly and the blood trickling down to the back of his throat, he eventually regain some semblence of composure and had decided that he needed to get out of the house. In any case he also needed to look up some literature about another consultation he was expected to work on tomorrow.

The space in the library was blissfully uninhabited at that time of the day. That was the main thing that he enjoyed about having his own business, the downside being the stability offered by permanent work.

For now he was absorbed in the book on curses using dragon's blood and revelling in the silence.

Melinda had gone to Hogsmeade early that morning to survey the shop in the light of day. It was the first time she'd been back since the living inferi incident, since discovering two bodies inside. The thought of the deaths still shook Melinda, but there was work to be done and so she buckled down and went. The shop had been cleaned up - in a manner of speaking. The debris and bodies had been cleared away, but the shop itself was still a battered husk, closed to the public.

Melinda hadn't stayed long, the sight of the ruined shop depressing her greatly. She took what measurements she needed for the restoration and then left, walking the High Street to clear her head. It wasn't long before she found herself wandering to the library. It was her second home away from home in Hogsmeade and she breathed a sigh of relief as she stepped inside, the smell of old books a comfort.

She wandered the stacks for a while, not looking for anything in particular. However, a familiar figure at the end of one aisle caught her eye. Melinda hesitated. It had been quite some time since she spoke to Theodore last and it hadn't gone well then. However, she wasn't the sort to burn bridges unless absolutely necessary, so she walked a little closer before saying softly, "Hello, Theodore. Find anything interesting?"

Theodore didn't really notice Melinda before she spoke, and was somewhat puzzled to see someone approach as close as she did without him noticing.

"Good morning Melinda," he said, somewhat puzzled by her inquisitive approach--given that she was upset the last time she spoke. He still had a hard time understanding why she'd get so upset over the whole thing with the Honeypot. He did let her know that it wasn't something that would be interesting to her.

"Interesting, perhaps. Useful, probably moreso. He quickly cast a copying charm to capture the current page he was on before fully focussing his attention to the conversation at hand.

"What brings you here?" he asked, interested in seeing why she greeted him. If there was a reason, that is.

Another time Melinda might have asked just what Theodore was researching. No doubt it was something intriguing. But Melinda felt awkward prying now, so she merely nodded politely at his words. "Well, you do have a talent for finding useful information, no matter how small or obscure."

She tried to smile a little as she said it, but his next question killed it before it could fully form. Her hands tightened fractionally on her purse. "I came to Hogsmeade to...I had to look over the shop, see what could be repaired and what couldn't. Take notes." She cleared her throat to rid it of the thickness gathering there. "Anyway, since I was here, I decided to come by the library to look around, see if I found anything worth picking up." And for the comfort of it, but she wasn't going to share that.

"Ah yes," Theodore said realizing what it must've been. "So you're dealing with the damages from the creature attack that occured the other day." He was glad to say that work didn't bring him near that for the past couple of days that it occured, at least. What he didn't remember or read--or something--was the piece on the two bodies that were found. If that were the case he may have handled it all with a tad bit more sensitivity. (Maybe.)

"Anything in particular that would be of interest?" Theodore asked, trying to think of something to recommend.
