Entry tags:!status: incomplete, ^date: november 17 2003, character: ernie macmillan, character: ron weasley

Characters: Ern Macmillan and Ron Weasley
Setting: DMLE - Lunchroom; 13:30
Summary: There are too many things going on at once.
Rating: Worksafe

Ern was more than a bit worried about what was going on at the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. Ever since he had returned from the weekend, his interactions with some of his peers and subordinates had been less than a bit chilly. It was subtle, but he was sure it was there.

He tried his best not to attibute it to the radio show that had repeated itself over the weekend, but couldn't help but believe that to be the case. It became rather clear in the review of the recent operation at Lavender's flat that morning, when someone had said something particularly off-colour about his skills at allowing his personal life interfere in his professional life. What followed was the most awkward silence before the meeting continued. Ern chose to ignore that, but internally made note of who said that and the reactions of those around the table.

If it weren't an issue, he wouldn't spend as much time worrying about it, but as he typically leads teams into highly dangerous situations as a part of his duties, he knew this would be an issue. It was just a matter of how much of an issue it would be.

Not wanting to deal with it at the moment though, he hid under the paperwork in his office for the rest of the morning and early afternoon before looking at his journal. His eyes immediately fell upon an entry by Lavender about her concerns about Michael. Now that he wasn't assigned to anything immediate, he closed his journal, tucked it under arm and went to seek out Ron to figure out what can be done at this point. Well he would after having a coffee and maybe even something to eat.

Ron felt like a kip at this point in the day. It had already been exhausting and it was only Monday. What a bloody ridiculous way to start the week. How was he supposed to know whether or not things were okay with anyone when he had no real information on the matter?

Right now all information concerning Michael was being referred to Agatha Bole because of the nature with which it was entangled with, not that he was particularly happy about that. He wanted to be able to help with that, if only because he had absolutely no idea what to do about Hermione at this point and it was killing him so he needed to do something. But if Michael was involved with Greyback there was nothing he could do because it wasn't his case and he would rather not get involved with it anyhow, as much as he hated to say it. Ever since Bill got attacked he was always a bit uncomfortable with that particular werewolf.

And it didn't help that no one seemed keen on giving him any help today either. He was the new social leper at work, thanks to Smith's broadcast, which was bullshite seeing as none of it was even sodding true. At least not the right bits. Bloody Smith! Ron looked up from his cup of tea when Ernie walked into the lunchroom and nodded to him, at least glad that he had someone to talk to who wouldn't shy from him because he had been called out too. Not that this was a good thing, of course, but it was still the nature of it. "Hey Ern," Ron said when the other man was near enough. "Been ostracized much today?" he asked with a scowl.

"Hi Ron," Ern replied to the greeting as he poured the last of the pot of coffee into his mug, with a helping of milk to top up the mug. He took a muffin leftover from the meeting earlier that day. "If you are referring to the passive aggression and the full-out aggression, then yeah. I'm just glad that there isn't any fieldwork or training exercises today. Just since I wouldn't feel as if I'd be covered."

"Hopefully this would boil over at some point soon though," Ern added, hopefully but not overly so. "I noticed that Lavender had made a journal entry about not knowing where Michael is--what's happening with that case?"

Which Ron thought was completely ridiculous. It wasn't even fair for their colleagues to treat them like this and not even ask what the full story was. And why the fuck had Smith decided to give his name anyway? Oh right, because he was friends with Harry, of course. Merlin forbid anyone be friends with Harry. "Yeah, let's hope so," Ron replied doubtfully. He had a feeling they might get questioned about this and he wouldn't be surprised if Percy had something to say to him about it.

"Yeah, that," Ron replied. "Don't think there's going to be anything that I can do about it, though I rather wish I could. Bole has been working with Lavender and if Michael's gone missing it might be connected to Greyback, which is Bole's case. I guess Michael has been helping Lav out quite a bit recently and it's possible Greyback may have figured it out. Which is...not good," Ron said, sort of thinking out loud. If Greyback had caught Michael, there was a chance they might not get to him in time, depending on how long Greyback planned on keeping him alive to taunt Lavender, or whatever he was trying to do.

"Fair," Ern said to Ron's response to his question about Michael's case. "Has there been any progress related to Greyback? Have they determined any possible whereabouts?" It wasn't only Michael that was captured by the werewolf.

He took a sip of his coffee so as to not appear overly concerned about what he was asking. Siobhan was his ex-girlfriend after all. He needn't be that worried, but he still believed that he was the one who was responsible for her being in the wrong space at the wrong time.

Ron shrugged. "I don't know, mate. They don't share that information with me. Lavender might know more though, you could ask her," he replied. Technically other cases were not suposed to be shared between aurors, especially in the case that there was sensitive information that could not be told to certain aurors, like Harry's case couldn't be shared with Ron. He didn't care much for any of it, but that didn't mean it changed the rules any. There was no guarantee that Lavender knew either, but if she was around when Bole figured things out then she might very well know.

"But this would mean he might have two people now, yeah? If he has Michael too? There was the guard that he took from Azkaban as well. What a piece of work..." Ron said, shaking his head. He didn't remember her name just then, but he knew that the Prophet had mentioned it recently.

"I suppose they won't since the less people that know all the details the better," Ern concluded with a shrug. There were far too many opportunities for a conflict of interest and vengeful behaviour, after all.

"Yeah," Ern said with a sigh and shake of his head, instantly feeling rather guilty for Siobhan's situation. "I hope that they'll be alright. I don't think I could forgive myself for letting this happen to her--I mean the guard from Azkaban. I insisted that she put in her resume for an interview. And look where that's gotten her."
