"I typically take them on days that I'm certain that I won't be affected by the nightmares," Theodore said with a shrug. "I get to sleep right away and generally remain uninterrupted in my sleep until the morning."

It was the nights with the 'nightmares' that typically were a bit more problematic. He had tried using all types of sleeping and dream potions, but to no effect. He was pretty much at the point of just not choosing to sleep on those particular days, which wasn't quite a longterm solution. Well it was either that or suffering through the 'nightmares.' And he hasn't quite determined which was worse yet.
