Who: Ally & George
What: The nightmare is worse this time (plotty, we swear!)
Where: George's flat
When: November 14, 4:15AM
Rating: violent imagery and bad language

And it started again. The wire sliding around her neck, the voice in her ear saying how beautiful she will look dead, the tightening, the suffocating...

This time she screamed as hard as she could scream despite the wire around her neck. She flailed wildly, trying to knock off her attacker, straining for freedom.

But it didn't come.

George woke up by being kicked and hit repeatedly, and an ear shattering scream breaking through his deep sleep. He was very confused for a split second, then immediately on the alert, grabbing his wand and sitting straight up in bed. It wasn't until then that he realized the comotion was coming from next him where Ally was thrashing and generally not acting at all normal. George felt a fresh wave of panic hit as he dropped his wand and grabbed her shoulders, shaking her out of the dream she was having.

"Ally!" He yelled over her screaming. She was scaring the shite out of him. "Ally! Wake up! It's a dream, it's only a dream!"

No! She didn't want to die! She screamed hoarsely as the wire tightened further, and-

-and she was suddenly shaken awake, her eyes popping wide in panic and staring unfocused for several moments until she finally realized it was George who was there, that his hands were the ones grabbing her shoulders, and his voice yelling at her.

She could still feel it, so much worse than it had ever been, and tears flowed from her already wet eyes. She reached out with trembling arms to George and held him close, shoving her face against his chest as if by doing so she could forget it all.

While he had hoped that waking up would fix things, that the dream would fade, apparently that was not the case, as she started to shake, cry and reach out to him all at once. He pulled her against him and smoothed her hair while whispering quiet, comforting things to her. Holding her was the only thing he could think of doing, so he just kept doing that, wishing he could do something else to help.

"Als, I'm right here, it's ok, I'm not going to leave you. You're safe here. I won't let anything happen to you, ever." He planted a soft kiss on the top of her head and started to rub her back a little, hoping it would help calm her.

While logically she knew his words could never be truth, she clasped them to her heart. She tried to take comfort in him, and to a degree she managed, but it was still too close, and all she could think of was the nightmare.

She nearly jumped when his smoothing hand brushed against her neck. "Don't!" she cried out, tensing. "Not my neck. Please, just... don't touch it."

George physically jumped when she cried out and pulled his hand away as if it had been burned. He made more than sure not to go anywhere near her neck, but he didn't ask why, figuring it had something to do with the nightmare, and now was definitely not the time to mention anything related. He just wrapped his arms around her a little tighter for a moment, resting his head on hers, before reaching to the end of the bed and grabbing the blanket to wrap around her so she wouldn't get cold.

He was at a complete loss. What the bleeding hell was he supposed to do here. There really wasn't anything he could say to make her feel better, he knew that, so he opted to just keep his mouth shut and let her decide if talking was appropriate or not. She was the one freaking out, not him, so he wasn't going to dictate what was the right method of action, but take ques from her.

The blanket helped and gradually her trembling ceased. Her tears slowed, and her clutching at him was less desperate. Of all things, strangely enough, it was his scent that comforter her most, as more than anything it screamed George to her panicked mind.

"It was worse this time," she said so softly that it was almost drowned out by the sound of blood rushing her ears. "So much worse. I thought the potion was supposed to help. It did help."

George was relieved when she seemed to be calming, and he didn't let go of her, holding her just as close to him, even once the shaking stopped and she seemed less like she was trying to burrow into his chest. Which he would have been fine with if that was what she needed to feel better.

Her words worried him though. He stroked her hair again, being careful to stay away from her neck. He hadn't actually asked her what the dream she had was, but anything neck related made him instantly think of choking. "I'm sorry," he said, feeling guilty suddenly. "I made you take it, I shouldn't have insisted." Why would it have worked once and then made things even worse the second time? That didn't make sense to him. Not that he was the star of potions or anything, but it wasn't something he'd heard of, a potion acting differently every time it was used. "What do you need me to do? I'll do whatever you need."

She shook her head against him. "You didn't make me do anything. Merlin, the first time I took it, I wasn't even with you, I was with Angie. So don't go blaming yourself. Truly, it doesn't become you."

She took a deep, shuddering breath. "You're doing exactly what I need you to do," she replied, wanting to playfully chastise him but being far from in the mood to do so. "Just... hold me. Distract me, maybe?"

He felt another twinge of guilt though when she mentioned the first night. "Well, I did give Angie very explicit instructions that if you weren't going to take it to force you to," he shut his mouth after that though, since it clearly wasn't helping anything to try to take the blame for something that really wasn't anyone's fault. Especially as it was an attempt originally to help. It was just unfortunate that it didn't work properly.

He nodded, letting a deep breath out slowly as he sat there, still rubbing her back in slow, circular motions. Distract her, what could he do? Think, George, think! He settled on the first conversation that came to him that might get her mind completely off what had just happened. "What do you want me to make you for breakfast later?" That was stupid, but it was the best he had at the moment.

Ally didn't think it a stupid question - in fact, the subject was one of the reasons her hips were wider than they'd been back when she'd regularly been playing quidditch. "Something with chocolate - that always makes me feel better. Over belgian waffles, or even just a croissant. Not eggs, though - eggs and chocolate don't mix."

Much of the tenseness was finally leaving her body as she enjoyed the soothing motions of his hand on her back. So often she was the one doing the backrubs, not the other way around, and it was nice to be on the receiving end for once.

George let out a little laugh before he wondered if that was the right thing to do. Oh well, too late now, it had already happened. "I take that as a challenge, find a way to make eggs and chocolate work together in a breakfast dish. But I think I can manage something more normal and sweeter. And if you liked my pancakes, I'm sure you'll like my waffles, I'd like to think even without chocolate they are pretty good, but that could just be me. Everything is improved by chocolate." He felt a bit like he was rambling, but he was really trying to get her to focus on anything other than the nightmare.

She seemed to be relaxing a bit as he rubbed her back, so he kept it up, and placed another light kiss on her forehead.

"I do love your pancakes," she affirmed. "I'll love whatever you make me - after all, I don't have to cook it."

This last was said with a semi-smile, her first since waking up.

"I don't suppose you'd mind if I stuck around the shop today? No massages today, just a shift at the Honeypot tonight. You're welcome to come, if you think you can handle it."

He smiled into her hair. "I'll happily cook you anything you like, all you have to do is ask."

"Mind? Of course not, I'd enjoy it. And I think I can handle it, perfectly well. Does the no touching rule still apply now?" He asked the last with a sarcastic little grin.

"It certainly does while I'm working. If I let you touch, either the rest will think they can, or they'll figure out who I am. But after... I'll kick your arse if you don't touch me."

She moved her hand to trace a finger along his chest, lifting her head to look up at him. "You sure you'll be okay? I admit, I've never had a boyfriend come see me dance before. It might be awkward."

He laughed at that. "Well, I have a feeling that after watching you dance, you won't have to kick my ass, I'll be ready to go as soon as your shift ends. Really, I'm sure I'll be ready before then, but I'll find a way to wait."

Her touch was relaxing, and he felt less and less worried about her as the minutes passed, sure that she was calming down completely. "Yea, I'll be fine. The other buggers can ogle all they want, I'm the one who gets to take you home at the end of the night. That's way better than just looking." He really hadn't ever had a problem with jealousy in the past, and he didn't mind her dancing. Really he admired her bravery, and since she enjoyed it, he'd feel like a total arse if he did have a problem with it.

She smiled at him - a genuine, terribly fond smile. "You're something else, Weasley, you know that?"

She reached up to kiss his cheek, then cuddled back into his side.

"You've got to work in the morning, so why don't you get some sleep. I'll stay right here, and if I can't get back to sleep, I can nap later while you're working."

Her smile made his stomach do a little flip that he hadn't felt in a very long time. He couldn't help but smile back at her, her smiles were terribly infectious. "I strive for individuality," he said with a smile. Really, he didn't have to strive hard, he had a pretty good reputation built up already.

"You sure? Because I don't mind staying up with you if you want me to." He was reluctant to ask his next question, but he decided he might as well. "Do you usually have the dream again after you go back to sleep? Or is it just once?" He hoped it was just once, not because he was worried about being tired the next day, but for her sake.

She shook her head. "Usually just the once. Though this time, I don't know, seeing as it wasn't like it usually is."

Now that she was calmer, she began to hate how George had to see this post-nightmare side of her. She'd hoped it had been better after Michael's potion, which was the main reason she'd allowed herself to stay over again. Now, however, he'd seen her like this, screaming and crying, and... he hadn't turned away.

"It's okay, though. Even if I do have it again... you'll still be here, just as you promised."

He felt a little relieved to hear it didn't normal happen again, but she was right, anything could happen, he just had to hope she would get some uninterrupted sleep so she wouldn't be a zombie in the morning.

George didn't know if he was in a bit of shock from the experience, or if it just didn't matter to him, but the fact that he'd seen her like this didn't bother him. In fact, he was extremely glad she was comfortable with him even when in such a state as she had been. She was at least able to see he could be serious and reliable when he needed to be, he wasn't all jokes all the time. And he wanted her to be sure that no matter what was happening, she knew he wouldn't turn away from her.

"That's right," he said, reasuring her. "I'm not going anywhere, and even if you don't wake up in hysterics, if you do have another nightmare, wake me up, ok? I don't want you to have to deal with this on your own." He'd already closed his eyes as the addrenaline ebbed away, leaving him feeling exhausted.

"All right, it's a deal," she replied.

"Now go back to sleep. I won't have your Mum coming after me for not letting her boy get his beauty sleep, and you need it more than I do."

He smiled. "And why's that? Because you're perfectly beautiful already?" He didn't really think about what he said, as he was quickly falling asleep again, but he did mean it.

"Yeah, that's about it," she teased softly.

She watched as his eyes fluttered, sleep threatening to claim him, and lifted a hand to gently smooth over his brow.

"Night, luv," she whispered.
