Samara looked at him, surprise written on her face. She knew who Zacharias was and she knew the Smiths well enough, but she had never been all that close to him so the fact that he was bringing her a present, much less in person, was a bit odd. Why would he give her a birthday present when he barely knew her?
"Zacharias, you didn't need to get me anything, honestly-" she began to protest, as Jason crowded her when the house elf popped out from behind Zacharias' legs.
Jason's eyes went wide and he looked up at his mother, pointing at the house elf and looking at Zacharias and then at the elf. Samara was taken aback, trying to think of why he would have brought her a house elf, but a random conversation in the journals came back to her and she shook her head, a smile on her face. "I suppose I did say I wouldn't stand in the way of your generosity, Zacharias, but this is really too much."
"What? Mum, I've always wanted a house elf! He can play with Argus and me! And maybe now we can actually eat real food again!"
Samara glared at him, watching her son walk up to the house elf and shake his hand. Great. He was already trying to make friends with him. Just what they needed, to not be able to reject the overly generous gift. Speaking of which, why was he offering it anyway when he barely knew them?
