Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:!status: complete, ^date: october 30 2003, character: theodore nott, character: tracey davis

Characters: Tracey and Theodore
Setting: Mynydd House, Bristol (Theodore's home); 12:15
Content: Worksafe, likely, although there will certainly be reference made to what he was up to earlier.
Summary: Friends + Coffee = Awesome.

It was unusual to find Theodore's place in such a state of disarray. Books were in small piles around the house and Theodore himself was feeling somewhat disorganized after a rather unusual evening--or morning? It wasn't wholly good, nor was it wholly bad, but it was something unusual (i.e. when it was bad, it was bad; when it was good, it was good). Upon the return to Mynydd House, a home that looked grossly out of place but was magically hidden in downtown Bristol (where the rest of the city had sprouted around it and clearly shows the edges of the property), he knew that he'd be unable to sleep.

He wasn't sure as to whether it was due to the strange vision or whether it was due to the encounter earlier that evening. He did manage to occupy himself with thoughts of the vision, as he had read each and every entry, his own notes and related books from his library. He had a several pages of scribbled notes with a list of books that he'd have to find at the library or Flourish and Blotts.

What he had managed to not do was change out of what he was wearing the previous night. His tie was strewn across the library floor, but other than that he had found new energy to work on figuring things out despite the distinct smell of alcohol and perfume. That hadn't become a consideration while he was working away at trying to piece together what had happened. He just had one idea, which led to another, and to the next. It was a day off of work, but there never was a day off of his own curiousity. In a spare moment, he replied to some of the journal entries, but soon returned to work, losing track of time once more. He also did manage to forget to change into something more appropriate as Tracey would soon be stopping by with coffee. Instead he was sitting at the sitting room closest to the door and was drawn to an article about the effects of various types of magic on dreams and the origins of the draught of dreamless sleep.

Theodore had a hard time since it wasn't really numerically put out there. "So by hardly ever you mean, less than once a month?" he asked, trying to be helpful. It was always easier to put a number to things, after all.

"I guess then by definition I would go occasionally then. About once a month, more or less," he said, trying to remember the last time he had went. It had been probably been more than a month ago. He never really did keep track of things like that. It was when he had the money and didn't have a particularly interesting book or if he were just restless. But not often enough to be considered a regular. "Does that answer your question?" He asked, fairly sure that it did.

"I guess that will do. Less than once a month," Tracey said though she had been thinking more along the lines of once in his life or never. But by that implication, she was getting an answer she wasn't going to like.

If she was more accustomed to thinking of Theo this way, once a month would not be so bad. But it wasn't really the answer she wanted to hear, but it was an answer none the less. "Yes, I suppose it does," she said drinking her coffee again. It was usual to do it to hide her expression, since Theo clearly knew her reaction already.

"I suppose that's why you wanted to change," Tracey said, finally noticing the smell of perfume that wasn't her own.

Theodore watched her expression, change and then observed how it was covered up. "Yes that was exactly why I wanted to change," he said with a shrug. He took a sip of his coffee before realizing that he should actually try to be hospitable.

"Would you care for a glass of wine? There's a very pleasant red somewhere around here," he asked, noticing that his glass was still on the side table. It was sometime after noon so it wasn't too inappropriate of a time to offer a drink. In his mind, at least. He didn't drink often, but this was one of those days that merited a drink. For some reason or another. And in any case, he had a bottle of red open somewhere.

Tracey did feel ready to change the conversation. Really topics like this should have been just reserved for Theo's... guy friends. Did he even have any guy friends? Well, regardless, Tracey wondered if she would have preferred to be ignorant about Theo's 'occasional' activities.

"Well, I do have to go to work in a little while, so I probably shouldn't," Tracey said at the offer of wine. But she also could... use some wine at the moment. "But if you can find it... I could have a small glass."

Picking up his wand, Theodore summoned the bottle of wine as he headed back to the kitchen to get a clean wine glass. It wasn't that hard to find things when one had magic, after all. It was about halfway done, but it didn't matter.

"This is for you," he said, pouring her a glass, and then setting the bottle on the side table. He picked up his glass and made a toast. "To better dreams."

"Thank you," she said and even smiling a bit amused. He'd made it sound like he couldn't find the wine, and then made it so easy. Of course magic always made things easier.

"To better dreams," Tracey echoed in the toast, and clinking her glass with his before taking a sip. The change of mood was already making her feel better, so Tracey decided it would be better to change the subject too. It was too soon for Tracey to think about her dreams the night before.

"So Theodore... are you going to the Gala on Halloween at the Ministry?"

"The short answer is: No," Theodore said with a shrug. "And the long answer is no, I'd rather not. Too many people, most of whom will likely be drunk and doing foolish things."

"Are you?" He was almost certain that she'd go. Just since it was an excuse to dress up and all that stuff. Something that she was most certainly into and something that he was clearly not interested in.

Tracey frowned at Theo's abrupt answer, and his further explanation. Of course she knew that would be the case, but she had hoped she would be wrong. Especially considering that Theo got up to things that Tracey considered foolish.

"Of course I am," she said sipping some more wine. "I'm dressing up as Alice in Wonderland," she explained since she was quite happy with her costume. "I'm going for fun, but I'm going to see if I can catch a story for the Prophet."

Theodore probably thought that the dance was as foolish as she had thought what he was up to was foolish. He was filling a basic biological need, and she was...he didn't really understand what she was doing. Except for maybe getting her job done, but she didn't need to remain that long or dress up to get a story for the Prophet, right? So they were even. He raised an eyebrow at her costume. "So you're going in costume then? I suppose it won't be the most outrageous costume though. At least."
