Astoria stood as well and smiled at the him and the cat. She was already attached to the fur ball, would have gladly kept him herself, but until she escaped her mother's house, no furred creatures were coming inside. Alive that is, her mother had a number of fur coats. She didn't understand that.

"Thank you," she said again as she stepped away from the chair. "And do take care of him, he is a very sweet cat." The look in her eyes said volumes about what kind of an animal lover she was as she turned away and headed for the door.
