Michael had had a rather busy day, all things considered. Even though he had been at work, it had been a bit slow, so he had time to get a few things done while he was there, such as send out the potions to everyone who had asked for them and write up an entry in the journals about having another DA meeting and bother Anthony about Lavender being in his flat and whether or not he even thought those potions would even work.
He'd also told Lavender he would gladly die for her or Anthony, which was probably a stupid thing for him to do. He may have also brought it up with Anthony as well - he'd regret that later too, but he was more willing to deal with Anthony's anger than Lavender's...whatever it was she would do. He never really did know how she would respond to the idiotic things he did. That was both something he liked about her and something that frustrated him.
But right now he was dreading the thought of going home, knowing that she was going to be there still. And he really hated himself for it because he cared a lot for Lavender, but he just was not cut out for having someone living with him. He felt like his space was being invaded, like his flat had become twice as small as it used to be and the longer he was in it with her, the quicker he wanted to get away. If she had just been there with the knowledge that she could leave at any time it wouldn't really bother him, but this arrangement just did not work for him.
While Michael generally walked home anyway, he felt like his feet were dragging slower than usual and he contemplated more than once going to Anthony's instead of his own, but he knew he couldn't do that without letting Lavender know, though by now she should already be asleep. Tonight was a nightmare night too and he did not want to leave her alone with that either, so he continued the familiar trek home and finally reached his doorstep, working through the wards to allow himself through and opening his door with the key. He closed the door behind him and set his bag down, but found Lavender on the sofa rather than asleep like he thought she'd be. He opened his mouth to greet her but then remembered he wasn't supposed to do that first and instead said, "We defy augury," like they had agreed to earlier in case one of them was taken over at some point while away.
