Marietta rolled her eyes. "So do I, Zacharias, but look where it's got me? Shall I call Crumplebottom in to tell you the statistics or are you smart enough to read the warning labels on the potions you take?"
She began to wonder if she were on the other end of this situation how she would really be reacting. If they actually were pregnant, would she be considering it just as she was pretending to now - a terrible inconvenience? She may have considered Zacharias one of her close friends and the Edgecombes may have been close to the Smiths for most of her life, but she knew better than to be delusional and assume that she would ever marry into the family. Marietta may have high hopes of finding a Pureblood to marry, but she didn't really expect to achieve that dream and as for Zacharias, well, there was a good chance they would end up tearing one another apart from the inside out if they had tried to live together. Their similarities were unconventional and while that helped them get along with one another, it was a poisonous combination that was sure to destroy not just a relationship, but more-so the people in it.
Marietta shifted into a more comfortable position on the exam table and smirked. "There are some things that are greater than even this stupid little setback. I'm certainly not going to let this ruin what I've been working toward."
