She wanted to say something to soothe him about the Prophet, or some other tripe, but in the end, the same thoughts kept going round and round her mind. It didn't help that his hands on her knees made her realize just how close he was to touching the black spot below the one on the right. Alicia, who had so often tried to be positive, felt a black cloud of hopelessness over her head, and she feared it would never go away.
"This isn't going to stop, is it." She spoke softely, as if afraid to say them too loudly. "This woman is picking us off one by one, and I don't know why, and what if I'm next..."
She hadn't even told her parents yet about what was happening. What if she died and never got to tell them she loved them?
