Percy knew Ron had a point about whoever it was who was killing people, but he refused to say so out loud and admit that he may not be capable of defending himself. He had spent so much of his life relying upon himself more than anyone else that to do otherwise was alien to him.
He chafed even further at Ron's points about Percy's position, though in all honesty he had never thought he would hear any of his siblings admit that Percy may have an important job. He couldn't deny a touch of validation at the words, but he quickly pushed them aside, as with so much else.
"Well then, I can see speaking with Gaskin will do me no good." Which is why he decided he would speak with Kingsley himself - without mentioning Ron, as he didn't want to get his brother into trouble. He only wanted to get rid of any idea that he might be in any trouble and needed to be protected. Until then, he could only hope it would take too much time to get the security detail organized, at least long enough for Percy to make his escape from The Burrow. Thus far, he hadn't told his parents anything of what was happening, and he didn't want to start now.
