Who: Anyone who is attending Justin's birthday party as advertised here
When: Starts at 18:00
Where: Ernie's flat -- Roseglen Flats, number 301
Rating: TBD

The surprise had been blown but it didn't mean that Ernie was going to do a lesser job at the party, nor did it mean that it wasn't going to be a great time. What his goal in the end was to celebrate his best friend, of course. Ernie tried his best to forgive Zacharias during these trying times, but the man was getting on his nerves. He felt bad for Smith, and had accompanied Heather to the funeral that morning, but steered clear of his former classmate, just since he wasn't sure what he'd do if he had heard another smart remark.

He shook his head as if in an effort to dislodge his former classmate from his mind. Ernie had ordered enough pizza, and put out enough crisps and other snacks to feed a small army. He would rather have too much than too little, and had similarly erred on the side of caution when it came to drink. He was aware that Bianca was going to bring in some cake, and all was well in the world. For now, at least.

Justin arrived at his 'surprise' party with a box containing a dozen bottles of wine, and a guest at his shoulder chattering happily.

"I wish I could tell Marie and Pierette that I'm going to a wizard party. It just sucks so much that I can't brag about my baby brother."

He winced as his sister Sarah pinched his cheeks. "You've seen me do Magic before. I doubt there'll be much of it anyway."

"But still, I wonder how wizards are for a shag?"

"Not much different."

"Still, I'd rather find out myself," she finished with a waggle of her eyebrows that would remind anybody at the party of her brother.

He rolled his eyes, made a token knock, and opened the door to Ernie's flat. "I'm here! The party can start now!"

Ernie greeted Justin and Sarah when they arrived, and certainly cannot help but acknowledge their uncanny resemblence each and every time he's met her. "Happy birthday, Justin," he said, greeting his friend as Sarah wandered off to get some crisps and a drink. He hadn't gotten to speak to Justin earlier that day despite being at the same funeral since he was actively avoiding Zacharias. Ern didn't wish to make a scene at the funeral, after all, and Smith had managed to press his buttons lately.

Besides that, he was there for Heather and in turn Adelle, who got along like sisters. Ernie had occasionally wondered what would've happened if Zacharias wasn't as obnoxious as he was...(As their families were of a similar social circle and they had known each other since they were young). It certainly didn't make a case for people wanting to be around him in the least.

"I'm sorry that I didn't say hi earlier--I wasn't really up for speaking to Zacharias today, and I'd rather not cause more trouble. I'll catch up with him later though."

"It's okay," Justin replied, finding a table where he could set his box. "But whatever went on in private on my journal, I think it shook him up a bit. I sat with him, we chatted, I tried to get him to talk but he wouldn't, of course." He shrugged. "It's Zacharias. All we can do is say we've tried."

He began pulling out wine bottles and setting them on the table. "Okay, so these two," he said, pointing to a pair that had labels in the shape of treble clefs, "actually taste like music. It changes ever time I try it - I think it matches your mood or something. And these," he pulled out a pair that had labels shaped like butterflies, "make you breathe out bubbles shaped like butterflies, and they actually flutter away from you. These," another two bottles were pulled from the box, "didn't turn out magical, but they taste like pumpkin. And the rest are a bunch of merlots from our cellar."

Ernie inwardly sighed in a bit of exaspiration over Zacharias. "I was a bit concerned about what Seamus had to say to him since it was a bit over-the-top, but it's Seamus." Ernie couldn't help but feel a bit guilty too over feeling that irritated with Smith. He was a jerk, but he was from their house and year, and therefore had some shared experiences. And not to mention the most recent difficult times. Ernie couldn't help but feel sorry.

"Wow--I think you're right about it being able to sell these. I don't think I've heard of anything like the music one. Although the butterflies do make me think of Weasley Wizard Wheezes jokes--although it's significantly less malicious."

"In a way, Seamus is like Zacharias - they speak their mind, and often forget to put a filter on their mouths." He grinned. "Just like me at times. No wonder I like them, even if Zach might not like the fact that I like him."

Justin took out his wand and used it to uncork one of the 'music' bottles, and grabbed the nearest empty glass to fill. "You know me better than that, Ern. Nothing malicious here. Life is too short to spend it feeling put out at being pranked on." He passed the glass to Ernie. "Here, try it. Let me know if the music matches your mood, just in case it was specific to me, or just coincidence."

Ernie sighed and shrugged. "And perhaps me too for that matter. I think the difference though is that most people care about the consequences of what they say, but I don't think Zacharias does. It's actually rather concerning to me since I'd wonder if he really does have any sort of self-respect."

Ernie tried to shake off the grim tone as it was Justin's birthday and curious at the wine that was handed to him he took a sip. He heard some relatively tentative music at first, which brightened into a more merry brass instrumentals upon realizing that it did work. He was unable to really place the music as in his ears alone. He smiled and looked at Justin. "I think you're right about that," he said, with a grin. "Well it's either that or it's coincidence that the tune had progressed in such a way."

Justin smiled at Ernie's enjoyment of the wine. He lifted his glass and playfully clinked it against his best friend's.

"Here's to a brilliant party, mate."

Ernie grinned at the toast, as he took a sip and made up his own. "Here's to a wonderful friend who I am fortunate to have--and to our continued friendship," he clinked his glass to Justin's and downed a bit more, again hearing more cheerful tunes from the wine.
