Who: Anyone who is attending Justin's birthday party as advertised here
When: Starts at 18:00
Where: Ernie's flat -- Roseglen Flats, number 301
Rating: TBD

The surprise had been blown but it didn't mean that Ernie was going to do a lesser job at the party, nor did it mean that it wasn't going to be a great time. What his goal in the end was to celebrate his best friend, of course. Ernie tried his best to forgive Zacharias during these trying times, but the man was getting on his nerves. He felt bad for Smith, and had accompanied Heather to the funeral that morning, but steered clear of his former classmate, just since he wasn't sure what he'd do if he had heard another smart remark.

He shook his head as if in an effort to dislodge his former classmate from his mind. Ernie had ordered enough pizza, and put out enough crisps and other snacks to feed a small army. He would rather have too much than too little, and had similarly erred on the side of caution when it came to drink. He was aware that Bianca was going to bring in some cake, and all was well in the world. For now, at least.

Justin arrived at his 'surprise' party with a box containing a dozen bottles of wine, and a guest at his shoulder chattering happily.

"I wish I could tell Marie and Pierette that I'm going to a wizard party. It just sucks so much that I can't brag about my baby brother."

He winced as his sister Sarah pinched his cheeks. "You've seen me do Magic before. I doubt there'll be much of it anyway."

"But still, I wonder how wizards are for a shag?"

"Not much different."

"Still, I'd rather find out myself," she finished with a waggle of her eyebrows that would remind anybody at the party of her brother.

He rolled his eyes, made a token knock, and opened the door to Ernie's flat. "I'm here! The party can start now!"

Ernie greeted Justin and Sarah when they arrived, and certainly cannot help but acknowledge their uncanny resemblence each and every time he's met her. "Happy birthday, Justin," he said, greeting his friend as Sarah wandered off to get some crisps and a drink. He hadn't gotten to speak to Justin earlier that day despite being at the same funeral since he was actively avoiding Zacharias. Ern didn't wish to make a scene at the funeral, after all, and Smith had managed to press his buttons lately.

Besides that, he was there for Heather and in turn Adelle, who got along like sisters. Ernie had occasionally wondered what would've happened if Zacharias wasn't as obnoxious as he was...(As their families were of a similar social circle and they had known each other since they were young). It certainly didn't make a case for people wanting to be around him in the least.

"I'm sorry that I didn't say hi earlier--I wasn't really up for speaking to Zacharias today, and I'd rather not cause more trouble. I'll catch up with him later though."

"It's okay," Justin replied, finding a table where he could set his box. "But whatever went on in private on my journal, I think it shook him up a bit. I sat with him, we chatted, I tried to get him to talk but he wouldn't, of course." He shrugged. "It's Zacharias. All we can do is say we've tried."

He began pulling out wine bottles and setting them on the table. "Okay, so these two," he said, pointing to a pair that had labels in the shape of treble clefs, "actually taste like music. It changes ever time I try it - I think it matches your mood or something. And these," he pulled out a pair that had labels shaped like butterflies, "make you breathe out bubbles shaped like butterflies, and they actually flutter away from you. These," another two bottles were pulled from the box, "didn't turn out magical, but they taste like pumpkin. And the rest are a bunch of merlots from our cellar."

Ernie inwardly sighed in a bit of exaspiration over Zacharias. "I was a bit concerned about what Seamus had to say to him since it was a bit over-the-top, but it's Seamus." Ernie couldn't help but feel a bit guilty too over feeling that irritated with Smith. He was a jerk, but he was from their house and year, and therefore had some shared experiences. And not to mention the most recent difficult times. Ernie couldn't help but feel sorry.

"Wow--I think you're right about it being able to sell these. I don't think I've heard of anything like the music one. Although the butterflies do make me think of Weasley Wizard Wheezes jokes--although it's significantly less malicious."

"In a way, Seamus is like Zacharias - they speak their mind, and often forget to put a filter on their mouths." He grinned. "Just like me at times. No wonder I like them, even if Zach might not like the fact that I like him."

Justin took out his wand and used it to uncork one of the 'music' bottles, and grabbed the nearest empty glass to fill. "You know me better than that, Ern. Nothing malicious here. Life is too short to spend it feeling put out at being pranked on." He passed the glass to Ernie. "Here, try it. Let me know if the music matches your mood, just in case it was specific to me, or just coincidence."

Ernie sighed and shrugged. "And perhaps me too for that matter. I think the difference though is that most people care about the consequences of what they say, but I don't think Zacharias does. It's actually rather concerning to me since I'd wonder if he really does have any sort of self-respect."

Ernie tried to shake off the grim tone as it was Justin's birthday and curious at the wine that was handed to him he took a sip. He heard some relatively tentative music at first, which brightened into a more merry brass instrumentals upon realizing that it did work. He was unable to really place the music as in his ears alone. He smiled and looked at Justin. "I think you're right about that," he said, with a grin. "Well it's either that or it's coincidence that the tune had progressed in such a way."

Justin smiled at Ernie's enjoyment of the wine. He lifted his glass and playfully clinked it against his best friend's.

"Here's to a brilliant party, mate."

Ernie grinned at the toast, as he took a sip and made up his own. "Here's to a wonderful friend who I am fortunate to have--and to our continued friendship," he clinked his glass to Justin's and downed a bit more, again hearing more cheerful tunes from the wine.

Michael had effectively not gotten involved in the exchanges in Justin's margins, but he had paid close attention to them and was prepared to deal with Zacharias if he decided to show up at Justin's party. He didn't want that arse ruining Justin's day now that he had already ruined the surprise.

After leaving Lavender's flat that morning, Michael went to Diagon Alley and bought a few different types of sleeping potions and draughts and took them back to his flat. He spent a few hours pouring over his potions books before getting ready to go to Ernie's flat for Justin's party, his head swimming with the things that had happened earlier that morning. He knocked on the door with his wrapped present for Justin in his hand—a stuffed badger that sang At Last when you squeezed it as well as some chocolates from Honeydukes.

"I'll get it, Ern!"

Justin was so full of energy and excitement, he practically hopped over to the front door before Ernie could even move in that direction. He grinned even wider, seeing who was behind the door.

"Michael! Well, if it isn't my not-so-secret admirer." He pulled his mate into a hug and pulled him into Ernie's flat. "It's been a few days. You holding up all right? Want me to get you a glass of wine? I brought over a few special ones."

Michael grinned when he heard Justin even before the door had opened. At least it seemed as if Justin's spirits weren't dampened and that was really all that mattered. Michael hugged Justin back in earnest, glad to see him as it had been a little while. "Well, it isn't my fault that the journals were mucking up. I used the proper privacy hexes and everything!" Michael smirked and clapped Justin on the shoulder while he lead him into the flat.

"I wouldn't say no to some wine, mate. What are you doing serving the wine at your own party though? Honestly, you git, you're supposed to be relaxing and enjoying yourself," he shook his head, but he had a smile on his face. "I've been as alright as anyone can be considering." He just shrugged, not really wanting to bring up all that shite at Justin's party.

"Oh here. Happy birthday, Justin." Michael handed him the present.

"Yeah, right," Justin said while rolling his eyes. He turned his head toward where he'd last known Ernie to be. "Hey, Ern! Your flat's about to go to shite! Michael's here!"

He grinned and accepted the present graciously, all the while giving Michael a look. "You didn't have to, you know. I'm just glad you could make it." He looked around and spotted a table off to the side, and placed the gift in a place of honor upon it. "To be opened after dessert."

He went back over and led Michael over to the wine, grabbing a bottle with the butterfly label and pouring him a glass. "Try this, I made it myself. Oh, and a piece of advice: my sister's here looking to try a wizard for a shag, so if you happen to fall for her charms, for God's sake don't call my name out, okay?" He handed the glass over with a waggling eyebrow.

"Hey now! I think we all know Justin's the one we have to watch out for! I'm mincemeat compared to him!" Michael called after him.

"It's not a big deal, really. And I wouldn't have missed it for anything, mate. Any party with you will be a hit!"

Michael grinned. "You made? You're not trying to poison me, are you?" Michael took a sip anyway and nodded. "Not bad, mate. Are you going into business for yourself?" He shook his head and laughed. "Not likely to happen, mate. You're a bit too distinct to make such a mistake, after all." he rubbed his neck, feeling a bit uncomfortable at the talk though which was certainly not normal for Michael Corner at all. So here it began, the testing of his faithfulness, or whatever it was he was supposed to be doing. Why did he have to open his bloody gob this morning? He really hated this already.

Justin watched with amusement as, after his drink, Michael's words became accompanied by a series of bubbles shaped like butterflies. The bubbles began fluttering their wings and approached Michael's face, touching his nose as if in a kiss, then flying away. "No poison, just magical dungs for the grapes."

He took a sip of his own wine, took a moment to enjoy the music bursting upon his tongue, and shrugged. "I've been experimenting. I suppose I can't live off family money forever, so I need to figure out something to do. It's been fun, anyhow. As you've seen, that's the butterfly batch. The bottles with treble clef labels are the music batch. You'll get a real kick out of those."

He chuckled and pointed across the room, where his sister was looking over a copy of The Daily Prophet and gleefully watching the moving pictures. "I don't know about that, mate. I've been told we're practically the same person, I'm just taller, and she's got nicer tits." He looked down at his chest and pouted playfully. "Not that I've much to compare with, anyhow."

Michael watched the butterflies fly away with amusement. "Well that's brilliant, mate. Good luck with it. Looks like you've got a good start already here."

Michael laughed, glancing over at Justin's sister when he pointed. "Well I suppose it's just down to whether you want baps at the time or no, yeah?" He couldn't really fathom anyone being just like Justin though. "So, what do you think of your party? Besides the surprise part being ruined, of course." Michael frowned a bit.

"It's brilliant," Justin replied. "All my favourite people in one place - well, almost. Seamus said he's working all night, so that's one less. It's not such a big deal, whoever I don't see today I'll see at the meeting tomorrow."

He took another sip of wine. "And the surprise thing wasn't a big deal. I feel bad for Zach, me going on about my birthday the day his dad goes into the ground." He shook his head. "I of all people know what that's like, except I didn't get to go to my Dad's. I went to Zach's dad's though, this morning. He was his usual arse self, but I hope I helped, at least a little."

Michael wondered then if Lavender was coming to the party. He hadn't asked her and considering she didn't want to go to the DA meeting, he didn't think she would want to go out to the party either. Which means that Justin wouldn't see her at either if Michael couldn't convince Lavender to go to the meeting at least. "Well so long as you're having a good time that's all that matters to me, mate." he smiled and touched Justin on the shoulder before taking another sip of Justin's wine.

"I can't believe you, Justin. You're too bloody nice, especially to him of all people." Yeah, his dad may have died, but that didn't excuse him being an arse to everyone. There wasn't an excuse to act like that.

Justin playfully leered at Michael's touch. Zach hadn't been too far off in saying that the party would be Justin's oppportunity to fondle all of his favourite people. In fact, he looked forward to taking a few liberties and seeing what he could get away with. Not that his flirting had ever been a problem with Michael. In fact, he had quite a few fond memories of 'fondling' his friend...

"Hey, you spend six years sharing a room with a bloke, you see him in a different light. I can at least understand he's an arse - I accept him that way. Though you'll probably feel vindicated at the fact that I think my presence was more of a punishment to him." He shrugged it off. "And anyway, don't go thinking I'm going altruistic or anything. I was hoping to get a shag out of him, that's all."

Michael nodded with a rueful smile. "Yeah, sure you were, mate." He knew that Justin would likely shag anyone, though he doubted that he was actually expecting Zacharias Smith to shag him.

"So what do we have to look forward to at this party? You still planning your orgy or did you give up on that dream?" Michael smirked. In truth he wouldn't mind spending the time with Justin as they hadn't done so in a while, but he still had that nagging feeling in the back of his mind telling him that he had a commitment to Lavender now even though for all intents and purposes, they hadn't actually said so.

Justin heaved a sigh and did his best to look put upon as he slid an arm over Michael's shoulders. "Unfortunately, while I would love nothing more than to have that orgy, we have to remember one important fact - this is Ernie's party, Ernie's flat, and Ernie will in no way, shape or form consent to an orgy. Frankly, I think it's because he doesn't know the appropriate post-orgy cleaning spells."

He turned his head to Michael, all the while chuckling at his own joke. "I can't speak for anyone else, though. And I certainly wouldn't object if anyone decided to come back to mine for a more private birthday celebration."

"Well, it may be Ernie's flat, but it's not Ernie's party, it's yours." He waggled his eyebrows at Justin and smirked.

Michael put his arm around Justin's waist. "Oh really?" Michael asked, raising his eyebrows then. Michael felt like he was flirting with disaster here, but he felt compelled to do so regardless. This is why he never did relationships. He just couldn't deal with this shite. Michael lowered his hand down from Justin's waist and squeezed his arse before removing his arm altogether. "So where's the food? I'm starving." Michael looked over at Justin, smirking.

Justin bit his bottom lip as Michael's hand squeezed one of his cheeks. Oh, this might be quite the happy birthday indeed. He grinned at him and let him go in return.

"Go ask Ern, he's in charge," he replied. "I'll save a dance for you, all right?"

He playfully pushed at Michael's shoulder in Ernie's direction.

Dean left work, went home and changed into more comfortable clothes before setting out to Ernie's. He' had a gift for Justin, some he'd used with Seamus many a time by now, and thought Justin would appreciate. It wasn't quite the same with Seamus not being able to attend, but there was nothing to be done about it. Besides, Justin was planning to come by later anyway. They could pick up Seamus at work and hang out a bit longer and celebrate.

Celebrating was something they needed. The rash of nightmares showed no sign of dying down, nor did the murders. Dean was left feeling unsettled at best and afraid at worst. Every time one of his friends complained of another night's bad dreams, Dean only grew more worried. He was doing his best to to make it obvious, but he knew he wasn't really fooling those closest to him. Hopefully tonight would take his mind off it, at least for a little bit.
