Characters: Lavender Brown and Penelope Clearwater
Setting: November 5 at 18:00; Obscurus Books Office, Upstairs
Summary: Lavender and Penelope investigate as Lavender has found a story that seems to match hers.
Rating: Worksafe

After sending the next return owl, Penelope had returned her focus to the last item on the list for the day. As of late she had been overly distracted, and had fallen behind in everything. She just hoped that everything will be resolved before she really fell behind, and would start to miss deadlines. She didn't need anything to get any more stressful than it already was. And then there were concerns over what those "dreams" really were. What really bothered her was how Harry reacted to it...

Looking at a small clock at the corner of her desk, she realized that it was just about 6:00pm, the time she had invited Lavender to her office. She knew that she probably should go and wait for her downstairs in the sales area, as it was quite easy to pass the easily-missed store front. Prior to leaving her office, she cast a simple organizing charm so that all of her papers fell into neat little piles and had made the crumpled pieces of paper in the waste basket disappear. She took a pile of books off of the extra chair in her office and set it on her desk. The small office was as neat as it would get right now. With that done she went downstairs, and had a quick look around the store to ensure that Lavender hadn't already arrived.

Lavender shrugged. It really wasn't a big deal. She baked a lot when she was stressed, it was pretty common coping mechanism. Her main difference was despite making all of the yummy treats she had almost no appetite for any of them, so she would then do her part to bestow the kindness of strangers, or at least bakers, upon other people.

"Thank you for agreeing to see me," she said sitting down in the chair and taking out her other notebook with the information in it. Her fingers hesitated just over her cards, but she ultimately decided to leave those in her bag. Maybe later if she thought it would be of any use. "I mean like from what you wrote and you know have the not really nightmares myself, I do know that they're not easy to talk about but yours did seem to break a pattern I had thought I found."

Penelope was going to reiterate how little of a problem it actually was to have to recall the "nightmare." Well of course it was difficult as recalling it felt like reliving it at times. But instead she was overcome by a curiousity related to Lavender's last comment the one about the break from the pattern her dream seemed to present.

"You did?" She asked, curious as to what the break from the pattern was. "What was the difference?"

"Well, most of other ones, at least the more detailed ones, seem to mention another person being there." She opened the book flipping to the page where she had copied down both Penelope's nightmare and the matching. "I have thought that was the case with yours until this one came in, it sort of throws everything off some."

Lavender slid the journal toward Penelope so that she could read it. "It just doesn't fit and I don't know, I was thinking that might be a way to figure out something more." After Bianca's reading last night she was more driven than before to find the answers because it was bad. Just really, really bad and she didn't want it to get worse.

Penelope quickly got through the words written in the book, feeling the colour drain from her features as she read them. "It sounds like it is quite similar, just from another side," she said, her eyes still focused on the words.

She wondered if she knew that person, and if so, what sort of relationship they had with one another. She remembered the feeling so strongly, so easily above all. It was a similar feeling that she had felt towards a couple of folks in her life. It was a feeling of love, which had turned towards betrayal and the associated pain. She felt the tension in her brow as she thought of what the words meant, and rubbed her eyes, as if to try to loosen that away.

"Who had this dream?" She asked afraid of finding the answer, but overwhelmed by curiousity.

"That's why I wanted to talk to you." Lavender had watch Penelope's reaction, not wanting to miss if she gave something away. Who knew what would be important to figuring this whole thing out?

"It was anonymous, no name or anything." Now, she wished that she had brought the original copy. Stupid Theodore Nott, totally getting in the way of things and he wasn't even here. The one thing she actually knew and now she just felt useless. Not that was anything new, but maybe Penelope had something. "Why do you think you know who it could be?"

"That's too bad. I don't know," Penelope said with a shrug.

"I guess it may be unreasonable to think that someone I know could've had that sort of dream. We don't know how many people have had these dreams. I just wonder if there'd be any patterns in how our dreams were related. Could you remember what the handwriting looks like? Or did the person use a Dictaquill?"

She had used one herself due to her difficulties with the actual act of writing.

"I think it was a Dictaquill." So even if there was a way to track down the Dictaquill from the script, she didn't know how. Not that it brought them any closer to figuring out who it was. At least not through traditional means. There was always having a go with some divination and before that there was instinct, pure and simple.

"Although I don't think it would be that unreasonable for it to be someone you know. I mean, from what I'm learning there is some sort of pattern there and this sort of phenomena would be likely to have that sort of connections because it's dreams, nightmares, memories even random there would have to purpose." Or at least that was what she believed and her instinct told her was true.

Penelope looked at the writing once more. She had only dated a few individuals very briefly before and after going out with Percy for a few years. And it wasn't likely that her muggle ex-fiance had the knowledge of or ability to owl Lavender about a nightmare. She considered that as she read the message once more.

"It sounds like something he'd write," she acknowledged aloud to Lavender, her eyes still on the words. "It seems quite possible." Looking at Lavender she elaborated.

"The only person I've been in a longterm relationship with, who wasn't a muggle was Percy Weasley. It sounds like something that he may have written. If he had written it out I may have been able to confirm with his handwriting, but now that I think of it, it is possible that he's written this."

It turned out one pushing her belief as truth paid off because she was right. Lavender nearly smiled at that, until she remembered the berth of the situation. And if she was right about this...well, that could mean she was right about some of the other things mucking about in her head and she really didn't want to be right about those things too.

"Have you spoken to him at all recently?" She repeated his name in her head. The most she knew of Percy Weasley was in his role at school and as one of Ron's older brothers. She did know that exes were a tricky place to deal with. "Or would you be willing to, to confirm if it was him or not?"

"Most recently, he contacted me once over the journals." Upon considering Lavender's request, Penelope sighed as if resigned to something.

"I would prefer not to have to communicate with him, if possible, but I will if you need me to." She didn't think that he'd be terrible to speak with. He would likely be his usual, polite self so long as she didn't test his limits.

She was more concerned with how she would react to him if he did retain any of his previous attitudes--particularly about the Ministry. She knew that he still worked within the Ministry--she still didn't trust them for what they had allowed to happen.

One of those sorts of exes, then. There just had to be something off with those Weasley men if that was the case. While she didn't avoid talking to Ron, it was always awkward if they did run into each other.

Considering what it would be like to have to talk to Ron when she really didn't want to, she settled on a different option. "Would it be okay if contacted him and mentioned our conversation?" Because she really did want to get to the bottom of this and she had nothing outright against Percy Weasley.

"You know to try and get him to talk and confirm if there is the connection?" Once they figured that out, there might be more, but right now she would start there. Baby steps.

"Sure," Penelope replied, realizing that she was tense around her shoulders but relaxed them after assuring herself there was no reason to feel that way. Well she didn't need to worry about speaking to him. Not right away, at least.

"I'll be alright with that. Hopefully he'll tell you what is going on. He has a way of hiding everything he feels. It's rather frustrating to say the least. So you may have difficulty finding anything from him at first since he'd probably hide something, especially something like that. That's if he hadn't changed much at all." Which in her mind, was the likely case.

"He's smart, right?" She asked after a moment. "I don't know him that well, but from what I remember of him at school is he's smart and if is having the nightmares, well, then maybe he'd want to figure that out." Although, she would probably wait until after Saturday to meet with him if she was going to approach him in person. Otherwise she might not be so patient.

"It's a place to start at the least." An exception that might even prove the rule. Of course she would have to figure out what the rule was, but the more that she could figure out the closer she was getting.

"He is smart, but I'm not sure whether he's the sort that would admit to having nightmares like that, or that they're bothering him. He's insufferable like that," Penelope said with a sigh. For some reason it still hurt to think about Percy, just a bit. Had there not been the war, she could've imagined that things would've turned out differently. Many things would've and could've been different. But she wasn't sure how.

"But it is indeed a place to start. I'm glad that we did find some place to move on from," she said with a small smile. "Thank you for looking into this. I'll try to do some further investigation myself, and I'll let you know what I do find."

"Sounds like your typical Weasley then." Not that they would admit it, but Lavender could see how they could all be a bit insufferable in their own ways. Although she supposed that could be true of most people. "But I will keep that in mind." At least that way she could go into knowing she would need to be a bit more persistent to get what she needed to know.

"And by all means, I think the more people trying to figure it out, the sooner we'll get some sort of answer, especially if we are coordinating our work." Today, taking a chance had worked and while she had another lead, Lavender wasn't sure she was any closer to the answer. But that was why there were people smarter than her who hopefully were working on this too and might even be willing to listen to her. "Thanks for agreeing to meet with me on such short notice too."

"Thanks," Penelope said with a sad smile. "It wasn't a bother in the least. I would much rather that this is resolved quickly."

She paused for a moment before offering more. "If you're having trouble with Percy and you think he does know more than he speaks of, just let me know. I can try to address this with him. But, I suspect that you will find a way. Good luck with this. And let me know if you do find something."

Lavender nodded. "I will certainly do that if he doesn't prove to be any trouble." Honestly, she didn't know what to suspect. As long as they were right about it being him then there was a good chance that he would talk. He did after all, submit his not-dream to the database and curiosity wasn't something that just stopped when unfulfilled.

"And if I find anything I'll definitely be in touch, I mean, I imagine if it is Percy, then I might want to talk to you again anyway to see if there is anything else to be learned." She gathered all of her things together and stood up to leave.
