Daily Prophet - November 2

STILL REELING FROM HERO'S DEATH - SUSPECT RELEASED
By Betty Brathwaite
LONDON - While condolences continue to pour in from magical ministries across the world, the wizarding people of the United Kingdom continue in their efforts to come to terms with the death of Harry Potter: Boy Who Lived Twice, Hero of Hogwarts, and Vanquisher of Voldemort.

Zacharias Smith, the prime suspect in the murder of Potter, was released from the DMLE yesterday morning at 10 AM due to lack of sufficient evidence to hold him. He had this to say with regards to his role in Potter's death. "My role? Merlin, what is there to say? He's dead. The fairy tale is over. That's all there is to it, now I'm going home."

In attempting a confirmation of information from the DMLE, Auror Roger Davies had this to say: "I'm not working the case, and I'm not at liberty to give any details."

Reporters from The Daily Prophet scoured the streets of Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade, listening to the word on the street of the average wizard and witch about recent events.

"I'm not really sure that this is a good time to get anyone's feelings. I guess you're lucky that you've found someone who can string two words together. Honestly, it's... sad to see a figure that's brought about peace die in such a way," said one Theodore Nott on the street in Diagon Alley.

"I can't imagine what it must be like for his close friends and family. He cared for them dearly and I know he will be missed," said Hannah Abbott, the barmaid at the Leaky Cauldron.

Rest assured, dear readers, that your grief is shared.

EXCLUSIVE: INTERVIEW WITH RITA SKEETER

In the wake of the death of Harry Potter, the Prophet's own Betty Brathwaite spoke with well-known journalist and author Rita Skeeter about the Boy Who Lived Twice, and her current work on a tell-all book about his life.

BRATHWAITE: So what gave you the idea to write about Harry Potter?

SKEETER: Well, as many know, I adore Harry, having known him personally ever since our meeting during his participation in the Tri-Wizard cup. He has always been a fascinating figure, not just because of his work against Voldemort and the Death Eaters, but also because of his tortured past and conflicted personality.

BRATHWAITE: Conflicted? How?

SKEETER: It all starts with his growing up in a Muggle household by a family that hates magic and everything it stands for. But as he grew older, the conflict took other forms, such as his inability to keep a girlfriend for any substantial period of time. When you look at his most significant partners - Hermione Granger, his best friend who was in love with another boy; Cho Chang, the former girlfriend of Cedric Diggory; Ginny Weasley, little sister of his other best friend and the girl who had hero-worshipped him since she was a child. All of them were distant and unavailable in their own way. However, when you consider Potter's close relationship with Albus Dumbledore, the conflict becomes all too clear.

BRATHWAITE: And what is the exact nature of this conflict?

SKEETER: Oh, I can't divulge that quite yet, as I'm still in the initial writing stages. I can, however, tell you that Dumbledore was in the habit of taking on apprentices, such as a younger Severus Snape, and he no doubt saw in Potter something irresistible for his own plans. When you look at Potter's actions, with the "Dumbledore's Army" and the bequest to Potter from Dumbledore's will, it is quite obvious that there was a degree of infatuation there.

BRATHWAITE: This sounds very exciting. When do you expect to be finished the book? I can't wait to get a copy!

SKEETER: Well, I will admit that my plans have been re-prioritized due to recent events, but I hope to have it done within the year. It will, however, mean a delay to my upcoming book about the life of Barty Crouch Sr. Did you know it has recently come to light how staunchly Crouch Sr. worked to update the regulations on cauldron bottom thickness when it comes to imported cauldrons? The papers had been under the name of an employee of his, but we all know the real truth, that it was all Crouch's idea...
