"I just wish he'd get here himself," Ernie said, the unspoken mix of emotions of frustration, pain and confusion clear in his voice. "What happened to Harry is proof that nothing is forever; who knows when one's time is up?" He pretty much had summed up half of the thoughts his worried mind had that morning, besides the whole needing to let the idea of Harry being gone sink in. The impermanence of life is a rather distressing thought, after all. He was frustrated with both of his friends as they both hadn't quite realized what he had been thinking about all along. Or at least their actions didn't really prove that.
"He didn't tell you what happened?" Ernie looked intently at Jasper's face as if to detect the lie or truth of the matter. "It's probably for the better if he didn't though." It had become more and more clear to Ernie with Jasper's visit that the alchol did bring out the truth, a truth that his best friend probably never did intend to voice. But now that it was out there there was no way to take it back.
