Who: Hannah Abbott and OPEN to ALL
What: Free Drinks in Memory of Harry
When: Saturday, November 1, 2003 8:00 pm
Where: The Leaky Cauldron
Rating: Depends on who all joins and what language they use

After the shock of the Prophet's morning news sunk in, Tom had spent all morning retelling the story of Harry's first trip to Diagon Alley a little over twelve years ago. To have been a fly on the wall of the Leaky that day one would have heard all kinds of tales of interactions with Harry Potter over the years. Some were true, many were not. Many spoke as if they had lost their best friend, their own kin, the savior of their world.

Hannah had gotten word earlier that morning that her shift would be extended by at least two hours. In a way she was glad, not only would she make a few extra tips but she would be able to push back what was likely to be an uncomfortable encounter later in the evening. For now though, she watched as the hour Tom had set for the memorial approached. She didn't think the old bar keep had thought about the marketing genius behind the idea, but Hannah noted it. Many had shown up early for a spot of food and would stay well past the end of the hour to continue drinking.

At about a quarter til eight, Hannah was in the back room completing the spellwork necessary to ensure that the glasses were continually filled and continually washed in order to keep up with the demand that was certain to take up her time for the next hour or so.

Bianca wasn't really sure she wanted to be here. No scratch that, she was definitely sure she didn't want to be here. But she had a ton of baked good, and needed to not be alone. Jasper's company earlier in the day had been enjoyable, and it actually had her smiling even hours later. It was that actually that got her a bit ore in the mood to go to the leaky, though she still didn't intend to stay long.

Upon arriving the first thing she did was look for Hannah. Peeking out from behind a stack of neatly lined up boxes, Bianca headed for the bar. "Hi Hannah," she greeted her friend. "So, er, here's what I brought along," she added.

Hannah had gathered that Bianca wasn't too keen on the idea of coming by the Leaky this evening. Therefore, she had kept watch through the crowd for her friend's arrival. When she saw her, Hannah made sure to head back to the bar where she could intercept Bianca.

"Glad you made it," Hannah took some of the boxes and placed them behind the counter while using her wand to open others up to see what was inside. "So, what all did you bring?" She was glad to have something to focus on for a few minutes other than the constant replacement of empty glasses with freshly filled ones.

Bianca was grateful Hannah had come right over to her. She set down the rest of the boxes and opened some herself. Inside was an assortment of tea cakes, tarts, biscuits, and miniature pies. They were all expertly decorated, some of them even hinting at the flavors based on the decorations. The carrot cakes for instance were decorated with little orange carrots in icing.

"I think I brought a little of everything. The biscuits are um, chocolate chip, lemon creme, and cinnamon sugar. The cakes are carrot, chocolate, earl grey tea cake with cream cheese icing, and lemon cake with raspberry filling. And there are fruit tarts and pies too."

When she finished listing them all, Bianca realised just how much variety she had made. And she still had some left at home!

Hannah summoned a few trays from the back and began to take the items out of the boxes and sort them by type. She would then place the traces at various spots around the pub so patrons could take them at will. "Did you bring cards for me to put on the trays?" she asked. Perhaps something good could come of this tragedy.

"They all look beautiful," Hannah exclaimed tucking two boxes under the counter. She would take one upstairs and one to Ernie's later tonight. "I didn't think there was enough time in one day to bake all of this."

"Well," Bianca replied hesitantly, "I didn't really sleep very much last night. I was just all anxious and nervous and all sorts of things and I didn't know why. When I found out-" she shook her head, not wanting to mention it. "Anyway I started baking not two hours after I came home from the gala and just...kept going until I'd exhausted everything."

But she hadn't exhausted herself yet. Maybe tonight she could sleep well. At least she wasn't still having nightmare-visions. She dug around in her bag and produced a number of cute and quaint business cards. They weren't for The Sweet Shoppe, actually; they were her own, all in blue and quite retro-looking. "Yes, I brought these."

Hannah tilted her head to the side as she heard Bianca talk about staying up even after returning from the gala. She had her own reasons for not having slept well last night but couldn't fathom why Bianca would have been anxious. "When did you find out?" Hannah inquired. "If Ernie hadn't owled me this morning I'd likely not found out until this afternoon." She wondered if someone had told Bianca before the Prophet hit the stands that morning.

She reached out and took the cards. "These look nice," she noted the individual flare Bianca had brought to the promotion pieces. She split the cards into small piles and place them on each of the trays she would be sending out into the room.

Bianca closed her eyes, remembering the front page of the paper that morning. "I saw it in the Prophet." She gave a nervous little sound that sounded like a quiet hysterical laugh. "Broke a teacup when I saw it. I thought someone was playing a terrible joke. I wasn't until I opened my journal and saw everyone commenting that I knew it was real. So I went back to baking to stop thinking about it."

She pushed her hair out of her eyes. Despite not really feeling weary, she looked it. "I had this terrible feeling for a bit now but I never thought that this was what it was heralding. I just wish I'd paid better attention, though that might not have done any good anyhow." She smiled weakly at Hannah's compliment. "Thank you. I designed them myself."

Hannah listened as Bianca told how her morning had gone. She thought back to the deck of cards still sitting on the end table upstairs beside her bag of runes. She and Lavender had a feeling as well and had done the only thing they knew to do about it. The result had left them worried and anxious. Now, they had a tangible reason behind those feelings.

"I think we're all going to be on edge a little until the Ministry determines why Harry was killed and who did it," she charmed a few of the trays so that they flew above the heads of the patrons and landed at specific locations in different parts of the pub.
