Who: Hannah Abbott and OPEN to ALL
What: Free Drinks in Memory of Harry
When: Saturday, November 1, 2003 8:00 pm
Where: The Leaky Cauldron
Rating: Depends on who all joins and what language they use

After the shock of the Prophet's morning news sunk in, Tom had spent all morning retelling the story of Harry's first trip to Diagon Alley a little over twelve years ago. To have been a fly on the wall of the Leaky that day one would have heard all kinds of tales of interactions with Harry Potter over the years. Some were true, many were not. Many spoke as if they had lost their best friend, their own kin, the savior of their world.

Hannah had gotten word earlier that morning that her shift would be extended by at least two hours. In a way she was glad, not only would she make a few extra tips but she would be able to push back what was likely to be an uncomfortable encounter later in the evening. For now though, she watched as the hour Tom had set for the memorial approached. She didn't think the old bar keep had thought about the marketing genius behind the idea, but Hannah noted it. Many had shown up early for a spot of food and would stay well past the end of the hour to continue drinking.

At about a quarter til eight, Hannah was in the back room completing the spellwork necessary to ensure that the glasses were continually filled and continually washed in order to keep up with the demand that was certain to take up her time for the next hour or so.

Angie arrived at the Leaky like she said she would, not intending to stay very long. She did want to go check on Ginny after the fact, but she'd also mentioned to Roger that she'd be there. She wasn't sure how many people would be there, but was not surprised by the crowd that had gathered by the time she arrived.

She saw plenty of familiar faces about including Hannah and Alicia, but both were occupied. Angie was about to grab a drink and barge on in anyway but first she spotted another familiar face. Angie rather hoped Roger was in a better mood than she, and more like himself than she, because she could certainly use his particular brand of humor to get her smiling again. With a drink in hand, she approached him. "Hey stranger," she greeted him.

Roger was off duty for the rest of the night now. He'd told Ange that he would be showing up at the Leaky Cauldron. He figured he might as well. Roger didn't know Harry as well as some people. During school he only knew Harry from reputation alone.

It was only in the last few years, working together in the Auror Office that Roger got to see the man behind the legend. Roger got along with him, and he appreciated Harry's sense of determination and even the way he bent the rules. He worked with Harry, and they were partners on their last case. At the very least, Roger could have a drink to his memory.

Roger got there a little later than he expected, since he had to finish up some paperwork before leaving. He was getting stressed about the Zurlo case, but the load was easier since Warrington was on the case with him now. He was determined that he was going to relax tonight, so Roger had every intention of going right up to the bar once he entered the Leaky Cauldron.

He was stopped part way though by Angelina Johnson, and he couldn't stop but smile down at her. "Hey you," he said warmly. "I think you need to see me more, if I'm a stranger," he teased and gave her a wink. "The bar is calling my name, walk with me?"

Angie couldn't help smiling right back at Roger. The damned expression was so contagious. She accompanied him to the bar as requested, her drink halfway empty. In the time it took someone to actually come attend them Angie had finished hers. "Might as well get a refill while I'm here with you yeah?"

She tossed her hair back over her shoulder to keep it out of her face and tapped her fingernails against the glass. "Right well we haven't been seeing as much of each other lately have we? But it's the off-season for me now. I should have much more free time on my hands."

"Might as well," Roger said with approval, as he ordered himself a fire whiskey. It turned out that he needed something strong tonight. Everyone here tonight was probably having something strong tonight. Once the bar tender brought it, he lifted the glass to his lips for a solid drink.

"Not completely your fault," Roger said with a grin in a teasing tone, before he spoke seriously. "I've been busy with work. And I'm still going to be busy for the next while. But I guess that just makes my free time all the more important to enjoy," Roger said. "So try to save some of that free time for me."

Angie had another whiskey as well, greeted someone she knew in passing and turned back to Roger. "No not completely," she agreed. "The DMLE's been keeping you quite busy. Doesn't really seem like that's about to change yeah. Whenever the do decide to give you some time off we ought to have a pick-up game of one these days. I actually miss playing Quidditch with some of you lot."

It had just been an idle thought, but Angie found she actually liked it the more she thought about it. Quidditch and just flying in general took her mind off everything else. Maybe that's what she should be out doing right now.

"Merlin, I haven't played Quidditch in ages," Roger said with a slightly frustrated sigh. Any attempt at wanting to make some kind of Quidditch league DMLE got put on the back burner when things got busy. It was probably sometime in the summer that he played a pick up game last.

"You pick a day, and I'll make time for it. I'll try to anyway," Roger said with a grin. It would be something to look forward to at least. He needed something like that, something fun with people outside of work so he could get his mind off of it for a change. But it was still going to have to wait till after they got a strong lead on the Zurlo case.

"I thought not," she replied, "and that's a bloody shame. You were too good to not still play from time to time." She pointed at him. "And I'll deny that if you ever tell anyone I said it," she teased. Good. She could tease. That meant she wasn't in danger of drinking herself into a stupor tonight. That was good considering she was still planning to visit Ginny after this, which meant being able to apparate. Drunkenness was not conducive to apparation.

"I'll do that then. Probably in the next few weeks if we can manage it. Hopefully you'll get a break in your case soon and actually get a day off, yeah?"

"Now if only I got those compliments from you back in school," he said when she complimented him on his Quidditch ability. He laughed though when she added that teasing remark. "Of course you will," he said still chuckling as he took another drink.

"Good, a few weeks should give me plenty of time. Though at this point I'm just hoping for a strong lead so we can finish this case," Roger said the annoyance in his voice. But he didn't want to talk about work. "But I'm off duty now. I don't have to worry about that till I go in tomorrow," he said not wanting Angie to worry about his work either. "What are your plans the rest of the night?"

"Well back in school I obviously had to pretend you weren't as difficult an opponent as you were. You even captained well but," Angie shrugged, her smile a bit wicked, "I suppose not quite good enough." She was obviously still teasing.

"Good, then I'll try to make sure you can get a good match in. I'll move dates and times around if I have to; you're the one with the busy schedule. For me it's just events and sponsorships and training until next season." She arched an eyebrow at him. "I'm going to stop by Ginny's a bit, see how she's managing," she replied, a bit soberly. Too soberly. She needed another drink. "After that, who knows? What about you?"

"And obviously I had to pretend it was the combination of three lovely lady chasers that was distracting in a match," Roger said laughing at that tease. "I'm going to let that slide Miss Johnson, only because you captained well yourself," Roger said with a wink.

"Oh the life of a Professional Quidditch player," Roger said smiling when Angie went on about her free time. His smile faded though and he nodded when she explained she was going to see Ginny. "I think you need another drink before you do that," Roger suggested. That was going to be a hard visit. "I have no plans. Maybe do some laundry, sleep. Not that exciting."

"Pretend? Of course that's what was distracting you," she replied with an arch smile. "What else could it possibly have been?"

Angie agreed with Roger and got a refill on her drink. She knew that the upcoming conversation with Ginny would be unpleasant, but she wouldn't be much of a friend if she didn't check in on her. But she could think about that when the time came. For now she focused on this bit of pleasantry in her day. "Laundry? Roger, all work and no play! Who are you? I'm disappointed."

"Oh so you're admitting that your charm was used to win Quidditch matches?" Roger said teasing back at that arch smile. It was really a hidden compliment that Angie and the girls were probably some of the best chasers Gryffindor could have had.

Roger laughed when Angie questioned him on doing laundry. "I have work early in the morning. And it would be kind of inappropriate for me to try to pick up a girl tonight," he admitted. This gathering was to honour Harry after all. Even Roger had his limits.

"Actually I was trying to insinuate that it had to have been our stunning charms that distracted an otherwise excellent player. My compliment a little to backhanded and obscure?" She actually managed a laugh herself and was instantly grateful to Roger for it.

"Mmm, I suppose," Angie conceded, "though all bets would be off if it were an Irish wake, you know." Angie hadn't had much opportunity - probably for the best - to be a part of an Irish wake, but from Seamus's tales, a celebration of life with plenty of food and drink seemed a lot better than a dreary funeral service.
