lavender is sure that living is worse ([info]lavishly) wrote in [info]pandorarpg,

Characters: Lavender Brown & Hannah Abbott
Setting: Hannah's flat, 3pm
Rating: General public
Summary: The girls have plans to help each other get ready before the gala, but before that there will be some divining happening.

Despite her best efforts to leave the bakery by noon, things didn't quite go to plan. Now, there was absolutely no hope of an afternoon nap - although maybe that was for the better. It seemed every time she closed her eyes something horrible happened, even if it was just in her head. If she rushed she would still have time to double check that she had everything and could manage a shower. As much as she enjoyed her job, she didn't really think that flour and batter would work with her outfit.

Without a nap, a nice hot shower sounded like exactly what she needed right now. She just needed to relax and mentally start gearing up for what she expected to be a somewhat busy night ahead. Stepping out of the shower she caught sight of a black mark on her arm, looking a lot like a bruise. "Well, that's just brilliant." It was bad enough she needed to find creative ways to cover up the scars on her left side, but now to have to worry about a mark on her right - well, that just wasn't fair. However, she really didn't have time to deal with her now.

Twisting her hair up into a loose bun, she threw on the outfit sitting in the top of the wash bin. She just needed something to wear for a few hours before she changed. Lavender threw her tarot cards and the extra concealer into her hand bag before grabbing her garment bag and heading over to the Leaky Cauldron.

Lavender seriously hoped that Hannah was having a better day since they messaged earlier, but wasn't the most optimistic about that outcome. So, she would just have to help her friend get there because she had been seriously earlier - if she was going to put a considerable amount of effort into not just looking like a normal girl, but looking pretty, then it would not be going to waste. They were going to have a good night tonight.

Even though she had taken the day off, Hannah found herself down in the bar helping with the lunch rush. It had been good to work and take her mind off the night before and the fact that she had a most uncomfortable night sleeping on her couch instead of in her bed. However, the banter with the customers had served to brighten her mood some. That was until she got the owl from Ernie stating that he wouldn't be able to meet her as planned and that she was to find him at the Ministry.

For now, Hannah sat on the couch, her dress out of the bag and hanging up to knock out any wrinkles (not that she couldn't simply use a spell). Her runes were spread out on the table before her. She'd pulled out various sets as each type was better for a different type of question. She was simply reviewing each individual rune in turn when there was a knock on the door.

She made quick work of heading across the room to answer the door. She knew who would be behind it. "Afternoon, Lavender," she greeted her friend.

Lavender smiled as Hannah let her inside. Her first course of action was to take care of her dress and make sure that the short walk over here hadn't messed up anything. "Soory, I couldn't get here sooner. We had the most insane lunch rush today, we sold out of my ginger and pumpkin spice, and vampire bites red velvet, so I had to make a few extra batches before I could get home."

She shook her head, trying not to let herself get worked up over it again. It was over and done. And really, the fact that her cakes sold out was a good thing. "Although I did manage to save you one of each." Lavender rummaged in her bag for a moment before pulling out the little box. "But how is the rest of your day?"

"That's fine," Hannah assured her. "I went down and picked up a few tables earlier." Out of the corner of her eye she saw the piece of parchment she'd gotten a little while ago. "Besides, I'm in no hurry. Ernie isn't coming to get me now."

Hannah reached out and took the box from Lavender, noticing a bruise on the side of her friend's arm. "Let me put those in the kitchen." She walked the little way to the kitchenette and placed the box on the counter. "I'm sure they are delicious," she returned and motioned for Lavender to join her on the couch. "So, what did you do to your arm?" Hannah asked once the pastries were taken care of.

"What?" Boys were so stupid sometimes - at least some things never changed. "If he knows better he better not be standing you up all together and there better be acts of forgiveness bestowed upon you later." There might even be words with him later as Lavender had hinted at yesterday.

Lavender frowned when Hannah brought up the mark on her arm. She really needed to do something about it. "Urgh," she said falling back onto the sofa next to Hannah. "I don't even know, I just noticed it when I was getting out the shower." There was also the fact that was the place where those damn pixies were really tearing into her.

She turned her head and poked at it. "I mean it doesn't seem to hurt or anything, but still so not the most attractive thing." And really she was already up against enough other blemishes to feel like she could honestly fall into that attractive category again.

"I guess he's just trying to get everything in order for tonight," she sighed. "Maybe if he stresses before the gala we'll be able to have a pleasant time." She certainly hoped that would be the case as they definitely needed some time to just be themselves without the stress that had consumed their lives the last few days.

Hannah watched Lavender poke at the spot on her arm. "Did you hit your arm at the bakery today?" Of course that was a stupid question, if she had hit it today it would likely still be tender. "Perhaps you bumped up against something last night while you were dreaming?" She began to pick her runes up and place them back into their perspective bags.

That boy had better redeem himself tonight, or he was certainly going on Lavender's list and that was not a place anyone wanted to be. She might not have a boy of her own to worry about, which meant she needed to worry a bit more about her friend's relationships.

"I don't think I bumped into anything at the bakery." Even if things had been a bit hectic through out the day, she knew her way around the space not to go bumping into things. And really, that just wasn't like her. "Although my nightmare was rather...violent." She rubbed the spot on her arm again. "I mean, it felt like I was being eaten alive by pixies, just biting, biting, biting."

Before they'd decided to give it a go as a couple, Hannah had never thought much about Ernie's job. It had just been something he did. Of course she knew that his overly protective nature was what had driven him into that line of work in the first place. There was just something different about the way she viewed it now. Now the job wasn't just something dangerous her best friend did. For the first time she had begun to think about where her own life would be if something drastic happened to him on the job. She tired not to think about it too often and she knew that worrying would only drive her insane. But alas, if Hannah had a fatal flaw it would be her propensity to worry.

Hannah noted the way Lavender rubbed the spot on her arm as she spoke of her dream. She thought it was odd that she focused on the area when she spoke of being bitten by pixies in the dream realm. "Didn't Professor Trelawny once tell us that the dream realm can cross over into our physical lives and that by doing so helped us to know the difference between a regular dream and one that might be prophetic?" She didn't like to ask the question, but she knew that Lavender would be more aware of these possibilities than most of the other people she conversed with.

"So what I'm going to get eaten alive by pixies in the future?" Lavender shuddered. It wasn't even a particular fear of hers, but if it felt anything like her dream then she couldn't imagine it would be pleasant. "But overhearing people at the bakery this morning, yes, it wasn't as widespread like, but good number of people were affected and to have that many prophetic dreams at once?

"So, maybe not that exactly, but I can't help but think that it is foreshadowing of something. It's just this feeling I have." There was that word again, very seldom a good thing, but at least Hannah might understand and help her to unpack it. "I mean there has to be some sort of pattern or reason here."

Hannah cocked her head to the side. "You know darn good and well that the imagery in dreams isn't always specific and straight forward." Hearing Lavender talk about how the dream dealt with her death, she wondered if Ernie's had to do with his own death. "Do you think everyone that dreamt last night had death dreams?" Hannah picked up the bag containing her stone runes. "Didn't Professor Trelawney tell us once that if something effecting lots of people was about to occur that there would be multiple warnings if one would only keep their senses alert?"

Hannah nodded when Lavender mentioned that she had a feeling that these dreams were more than they seemed. "I agree," she added, "something is not right. But what?"

"I don't know, but from the few that I've heard they do seemed to be situations were death was a possible outcome." This was so not the conversation she intended to have when she came over here. In fact it was the exact opposite of what she wanted to talk about and yet here they were - probably just making it worse for each other.

"And I mean that's what I'm worried about, that something bad is going to happen, which is why I wanted to do a reading." She reached over for her hand bag once more. Her deck was tucked just off to the side, easy to access even with her bag that was technically bigger on the inside. "I was also thinking about seeing if I could get a hold of Professor Trelawney and see what she thought about everything."

The conversation was actually helping Hannah. She was glad Lavender would talk since Ernie wouldn't. It gave her an outlet for the worry and someone to share her concern with who wouldn't just brush it aside as nothing. "Lavender, I know talking about this can't be easy on you, but thank-you."

As the other witch reached for her deck of tarot cards, Hannah began to lay her runes out in cross. As she noticed which rune landed in which location, a sense of foreboding began to well up inside her. She wondered if Lavender's cards would show the same.

While she might not have wanted to talk about it, she did appreciate the opportunity to share it with someone who wouldn't just think she was Lavender being Lavender. It certainly didn't hurt to have a partner in the search for answers.

She took a moment to clear her mind and center herself so that she might get a more accurate reading. After a moment she removed her well-used Rider Waite deck and focused, she shuffled them for a moment, while meditating on the topic she was seeking answers on. She put the deck a few times until it felt right, then she splayed the deck on the table and picked 10 cards with her a left hand.

Lavender laid the cards out in the basic Celtic Cross spread. "Oh," she said, sounding infinity small. Those were not the cards she wanted to see.

Hannah took the time to inspect each rune one by one. She was really worried about the presence of Algiz in the center. She knew security was supposed to be tight this evening but the runes clearly showed that somewhere somehow defenses would be let down tonight. She wouldn't dare mention this to Ernie as he'd likely take it as an excuse to work even though he was supposed to have the evening off. If it weren't for the presence of Isa and Tyr together she might have hoped that the defenses to be dropped would be the walls Ernie kept up in order to protect her.

"Perhaps we shouldn't have done readings," Hannah lamented as she turned to look at the cards. She saw several swords and vaguely remembered they didn't usually bode well. "You'll have to forgive my Tarot ability. I've not done cards in years. The runes show a battle of some sort on the horizon. Are you seeing something similar." She wasn't sure if Lavender remembered how to read the runes. With all the symbolic memorization needed diviners usually found a particular path as their favorite.

Lavender glanced over at Hannah's rune spread, recognizing a few of the symbols, but they weren't her preferred method. She much preferred the visual of her cards, which sometimes desperately clung to - no time more than in their last year of school. "A battle?" she repeated, not liking how that added to what she was seeing.

"I...I have the three of swords in the 10 position." The card by itself was ominous looking enough, a heart with three swords through it and rain in the background. Of course there were other cards that supported what that card meant, but at the moment that was the one she was stuck on. "It represents a sudden pain, suffering...that something is amiss, which when coupled with the moon as signifier that already represents danger, darkness, terror."

She shook her head, taking a moment to pull together the full story and not just worry over one card. "And then the wheel of fortune, saying that it's inevitable that it's written." Lavender paused over the five of swords, wondering how an underlying feeling of despair based on defeat feed into these cards and if maybe that was the dreams were. "But here, the six of wands, it goes along with your expected battle - a victorious enemy at the gates."

Hannah listened as Lavender elaborated on the cards and their meaning. Some of it jumped back into her mind as the reminders of the symbolism were stated. Hannah herself did not have any images to worry about from the night before but it disturbed her that her friends had.

"The six of wands is Isa, a relentless foe," she pointed out the direct link between their readings. She didn’t like it one bit and could tell that Lavender was having an even harder time with the results.

“Alright,” she reached out and messed up her layout. “Enough, let’s take a look at these dresses and get on to something a bit more pleasant.”

She kept looking at the three of swords. Lavender hadn't drawn that card in that position since... Tempted as she was to do a few additional readings, she didn't think she would magically get the answer she wanted. It was already written.

Just because she wanted to know, didn't mean that she liked knowing now.

"Okay," she said quietly. She didn't move immediately, needing a moment to mentally switch over to easier things. "That's right, I still haven't seen your dress and you might need to talk me out of a very bad shoe decision - although they are wonderful and pretty and perfect." But a full night with the possibility of dancing on five inch heels and her back probably wasn't the smartest move.

Hannah noticed that Lavender was still entranced by her cards. Reaching over, she ran her hand across that spread as well. It would do them no good to continue to focus on the bad. Perhaps it was more their mood than reality that was influencing their interpretations.

"A bad shoe decision?" Hannah had never known Lavender to make a bad shoe decision. "Surely it's not too horribly out of character for the night."
