Max smiled when Legolas called the exchanging ones feelings and memories the ‘gift of sight’. That must be an ability that some of his fellow elves possessed. He thought Max was pleased that he did not experience any of Max’s life or memories…strangely enough, Max was a bit saddened that he had not. As they walked on, Max explained that particular ability further, “The bonding ability we have is a bit different than the gift of sight in the way that…you do not need to possess any gifts to experience anything. Liz, my girlfriend back home was a human girl with no powers at all and she experienced everything as fully as I did”, he made a circular motion with his hands, “It was a complete and total exchange”.
When the elf called him a wizard, Max blushed and let out a chuckle, “You flatter me. I’m just a normal guy with a few extra abilities. No big deal”. He looked at Legolas as they walked…the pointed ears, the fine features, the clothing, the regal bearing…boy, how he would love to take him back to Roswell with him and sit him down in a booth across from Sheriff Valenti at the Crashdown Café for a piece of deep-dish cherry pie; the stunned look on Valenti’s face would be absolutely priceless.
“We are on an island?”, Max repeated, “I’d love to see, if you have time to show me, sir”. Max was fascinated, even though part of him was, of course worried that he may never see home…the part of him that wasn’t worried was like a little boy wanting to explore…this magical mansion on a magical island, full of people from strange lands and different times…how could he not be excited? He had to be here anyway and there was no going back, so he may as well make the best of it until a way was discovered to go back…he could be miserable or he could be excited and productive…the choice was his.
Walking through the dance hall, Max marveled at the beautiful décor and massive size of the room, then, when Legolas opened the balcony doors, Max rushed to his side… “Mr. Legolas, It’s beautiful!”, Max exclaimed, “If you have no plans or appointments or anything you’d rather be doing, I’d love to go out there”.
