Actually...
...statistically, you are not alone. You’re not even all that deviant—I know, one shudders at the thought. A little over 50% of women (sorry, no male stats, but I'd imagine they'd be higher—testosterone being what it is) routinely have fantasies featuring rape scenes, but, when asked about their moral stance on the issue, all the women surveyed agreed that the reality of rape was deplorable. Another 30% of women fantasize about a partner taking complete control over them sexually. Again, when asked about the reality of this situation, they stated that there was a clear differentiation between their fantasy-lives and real-life. Fantasies are just that, imaginative fun. They’re a space where anything is possible and acceptable and shouldn’t be held up to moral inspection, as long as it doesn’t flow into your less-than-cognitive life. Spanking goes along the same lines. It’s a fantasy of discipline and punishment that is completely different than the reality of your parents having taken a belt to you. In a world where so many social lines and boundaries have been blurred and confused (hell, I call the president of the company I work for by his first name), I think we crave the ideals of the BDSM lifestyle. The clarity of those lines, of those roles, makes us—both bottoms and tops—feel more in control of the world we exist in. And there in lies the appeal.
