Summary: Jared works for maintenance and Jensen is a nurse. They date.
Jensen smiled at the two year old in his lap. She was cranky, unable to eat until after surgery. Her little fists grabbed for the IV line that they'd had such a difficult time getting in.
"No, no, baby," he gently grasped her hands and kissed them. "Can't have you yanking that out."
She looked at him with big, teary eyes when he spoke. So he tried singing, seeing if it would take her mind off her discomfort and calm her down.
Once he started to sing, she stared at him as they rocked in the chair. He released her hands and she didn't grab for her IV or monitor lines. He brushed some of her hair back as he continued to sing. He sang every song he knew. And, then, he sang them again.
When they came to get her for surgery, he didn't stop his singing as he stood up and their escort disconnected the monitor lines and pushed the IV pole as they walked down the bright hallway.
He kept her attention right on him until he laid her down on the operating table and she was asleep.
"I didn't know you sang," one of the other nurses remarked when he came back to the desk.
Jensen smiled, "Only for the really special little ones."
"Aren't they all special?"
"In their own way. I just don't sing for all of them." He made some notes in a chart and went off to answer a call light.

"What are you doing?" a small voice asked from below.
"Trying to fix this light," Jared answered back with a smile as he stepped down the ladder to get another tool. "What are you up to?"
"I wanted to play video games but it isn't working. Everyone is too busy to look at it right now," the little boy gave him the puppy dog eyes, which he knew would make the maintenance man quit what he was doing and get the video games to work.
"Let me close this up and I'll meet you in the game room," Jared chuckled. "I guess a broken light can wait a few more minutes. You'd better go pick out a game."
The boy's smile was blinding as he wheeled off toward the game room.
Jared closed up the panel in the ceiling and put his tools and ladder in the closet.
"Hi, Jared. Where are you off to?" Jensen asked.
"Video games aren't working. I have to have my priorities, man."
Jensen smiled and asked in a whisper, "Still on for supper?"
"I'll pick you up at seven," Jared grinned as he went down the hall.
Jensen watched him walk away for a moment before continuing on his way.
"So what game are you trying to get going here?" Jared crouched down by the boy. "Oooh. My favorite one. Let's see if I can untangle the cables."
"How come you're always here?"
"I work here, remember? Sometimes I work when you're sleeping. Other times, you're awake when I'm here."
"You always help with the games. Some people don't."
"I help when I can," Jared replied. "I can't always drop what I'm doing."
"You do most times."
"Just because you have to practice up so you can beat your sister when your family comes to visit," Jared chuckled. "She's still winning, isn't she?"
"Not by as much as before," the boy adamant. "I'm getting better."
"I'm sure you are. And, now you can practice some more," Jared put the cables down and dusted off his pants. "All fixed. Go ahead. They're coming this weekend, right? That's not too far away."
"Thanks," Jared was once again greeted with that bright smile.
"You're welcome. Have fun. I'll get back to the light."
"Hello, Jared," one of the nurses called in a friendly voice. "Any chance that light is going to get fixed?"
"It's next on my list," Jared smiled at the lady but tried not to make eye contact. It was always awkward when one of them took the initative to ask him out on a date. It made him blush when he would be working and feel their eyes on him, checking him out, wondering why he didn't mention much about his life outside the hospital.

Jensen sank into the seat of Jared's truck with a sigh.
"Long day?" Jared asked as he checked traffic and pulled out into it.
"Had one surgery that went long, way too long."
"The kid okay?"
"Yeah. And I know we're supposed to remain professional--"
"But you wear your heart on your sleeve with those kids," Jared took Jensen's hand. "You have for as long as I've known you. What happened today?"
"I kept looking at the clock, worrying about an infant, and couldn't give the other kids my total attention when I was with them."
"But you were right there when she got out," Jared said and then turned red. "I spent a more than a couple hours in your ward today. I saw them wheel her back to her room and you were with her. Otherwise, I wouldn't have known."
"You're very observant. I suppose I'd better warn you that I serenaded that little angel for quite awhile before they called her back. A couple of the nurses heard me singing as we went down to the OR and had to rib me about it."
"I heard you , too, Jensen. I thought it was sweet."
"Ugh! I never meant for anyone else to hear that."
"That's what made it so sweet," Jared rubbed his thumb over the back of Jensen's hand. "We're here."
Jared pulled into his apartment complex.
"I thought we were going to supper?"
"I picked some Chinese up last night. Figured we could heat it up tonight and be able to spend a little more time together. It's not like our schedules match."
"I'll never complain about extra time with you," Jensen gave Jared a quick kiss before reaching for the door handle. "Chinese sounds great. I'm starving."

With supper eaten and dishes in the sink. they sat on the couch. Jared had his arm around Jensen and he was almost asleep with his head resting on Jared's shoulder.
Jared smiled down at Jensen and kissed the top of his head. If they'd gone out to supper, they wouldn't have had the few minutes they had sitting together before Jensen fell asleep.
"Jensen," Jared woke him up gently. "What shift do you work tomorrow?"
"Another seven to seven. Why?"
"You've been asleep here for at least half an hour. Why don't you stay and I'll drop you off in the morning?"
"Need my scrubs."
"You keep an extra set in your locker, remember? Come on, let's get you to bed."
"I'm not that tired," Jensen tried to open his eyes really wide to prove it and only succeeded in looking like he had fish eyes.
"That's it," Jared laughed. "Here we go, sleepy."
Jensen didn't protest when Jared stripped him down to his boxers and tucked him in.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to fall asleep on our date."
"Don't worry about it. Get some rest, Jen," Jared turned off the light and pulled the door mostly closed.
Jared wasn't tired yet. He made lunches for the both of them and put them in the fridge. He labeled them because he'd put a couple kinds of candy in his lunch and put an extra sandwich in Jensen's. He emptied the dishwasher and put the dirty ones in. He double-checked the door to make sure it was locked.
He hopped in the shower, thinking of Jensen asleep in his bed. He wasn't upset that he was asleep but he was thinking that just maybe, after a couple hours of sleep, he might be up for some low-key adult activities. After his shower, he tip-toed into his bedroom with a washcloth and towel, just in case they needed them.
Jensen was still curled on his side, facing the wall. He usually seemed to migrate to that side of the bed. Jared set the alarm and curled up behind him, holding him close.
He loved the feel of his skin, the smell of his shampoo and the scent that only Jensen had.
"Jare, why are you sniffing me?"
Caught in the act, he couldn't really deny it. Yet, there was no way in hell he was admitting it.
"I woke up when I heard the shower running," Jensen rolled over to face Jared. "So how did the rest of our date go?"
"I made lunches and did some dishes. That's about it."
"Hmm. A man who is mechanical and domesticated. How did I get so lucky?"
"I've always had a thing for naughty nurses," Jared smiled.
Jensen put a hand behind Jared' head and pulled him down to kiss him. Jared sighed and relaxed against Jensen. They communicated with their mouths but not words. Heated kisses spoke instead.
Jared moved and felt that Jensen was hard, just like he was.
"Can we?" Jared's voice was hesitant.
The response Jensen gave was to slip his hand inside of Jared's boxers. Jared groaned and moved his hands under the back of Jensen's waistband until he could pull them down. He ran his hands over Jensen's cheeks before reaching back around to the front to pull the waistband down.
Once he'd kicked himself free from clothing, Jensen helped Jared shed his.
"First or second?" Jensen whispered.
"Jen, you're tired. Let me do the work. I'll take care of both of us."
"You sure?"
Jared pressed his lips to Jensen's. "Yes. Roll over."
Jensen rolled onto his stomach and tucked his arms under his pillow. Jared grabbed an extra pillow to put under his hips. He slowly prepped Jensen, listening closely to the little tells Jensen had for if he was going to fast or slow.
Jared situated himself between Jensen's legs, encouraging him to open them wider.
"Ready?" Jared's voice was raspy.
"Love you, Jared."
"Love you, too," Jared replied as he pushed himself in all the way.
Jensen pushed back toward Jared, meeting his thrusts. With the warm heat surrounding him, Jared groaned as he finished. He laid on Jensen's back until he could catch his breath.
"Good?" Jared asked.
"Wonderful," was Jensen's reply.
"Roll onto your back," Jared said as he took the extra pillow away.
Jensen looked up at Jared through heavy lids. Jared straddled his hips as he reached for more lube. He steadied himself with a hand on the headboard before fingering himself open.
Jensen laid there in awe as he studied Jared. His muscles were highlighted by the moonlight that slid in through the blinds. His head was bowed forward with his shaggy hair hiding his face. Jensen watched his fingers sliding in and out and listened to the sounds of pleasure crossing Jared's lips.
"You are so beautiful," Jensen told him as he moved his hands to Jared's hips.
Jared heard him but found himself unable to reply. He reached for Jensen and slicked him up before he slowly lowered himself onto Jensen's shaft. He put one hand on Jensen's chest and left the other on the headboard as he moved up and down and tilted his hips just enough to hit that magic spot.
"Jare, I . . Man, I can't . ."
"It's alright, Jen," Jared struggled to get the words out. He felt Jensen's release the same time Jensen called his name, loudly, earning them a thump on the wall from the neighbors.
"Guess they don't have the love life we do," Jared laughed as he grabbed the washcloth and towel and started cleaning them up.
"I pity them. You'd think they'd want to life vicariously though us."
"Maybe they're senior citizens," Jared said thoughtfully as he concentrated on toweling them off.
"That doesn't mean they're dead. I plan on still making love when I'm retired."
"I'd have a hard time giving it up, that's for sure."
When Jared laid back down, Jensen asked, "Did you really have naughty nurse fantasies?"
"Yeah. I think it's the whole sponge bath idea."
"Should we try that sometime?"
"I don't know," Jared was blushing.
"Did you know you're beautiful when you're above me, fingering yourself open? Between the moonlight and the sounds you make, there's no way I could ever resist you."
"Would you ever want to?" Jared ran his fingers through Jensen's hair.
"Hell, no. Why ruin a good thing?"
They laid together, naked, limbs entwined and sleeping soundly.
