There was something in her tone, some slight but of nervousness, that drew his complete attention. Yet when she spoke of being a coyote Adam just chuckled softly. "Indeed? I hadn't noticed that. I must be slipping in my old age." With a smile he shook his head again, though a trace of his smile slipped away at her question...replaced with a bit more of a serious expression. "Whether they all like you or not is irrelevant. They will all respect you, and the position you now hold. That much is beyond any doubt." The Alpha knew that a few of the older wolves had grumbled at the news that he had taken a coyote as a mate, but none of them would ever defy him...not after the pack witnessed the way that Adam slaughtered his father.
Hell there were a few in the pack that didn't like him either, but being pack didn't mean that everyone would get along. It meant that they would all follow his lead, and could rely on him protecting the collective. "A few will are not thrilled with this, but none will challenge my decision. You have my word on that, Meri." The wolves were his family, however they were also predators and primal in so many ways. Even with all his education, wealth, and keen sense of fashion the Alpha was not human. Nor did he abide by the same social graces that humanity relied so heavily upon. Displeased or not with Adam strength was what truly held sway...and his power was unquestionable.
Her laugh managed to bring him back from the far more serious thoughts and, when his smile brightened, Adam chuckled again. "I had thought you would already have your hands full going over the details for your new shop. So why trouble yourself over something like moving?"
