When does the game start and how long will it run?
ASAP and for as long as we're all still writing.
Can I play a minor character from a fandom?
Yes! Stories can't work without all the pieces in place.
What is the rating on the game?
Posts should be labeled appropriate with a rating tag, one of the following: E, E10+, T, M.
Where is Hallowtide?
An alternate dimension, accessible only to creatures who embody the spirit of Halloween.
How long are characters in Hallowtide?
They exist there the majority of the year. Their respective stories reset at the appropriate times, and they're whisked back to their own worlds to relive their stories.
Why do they have to relive their stories?
So the world can continue to enjoy, remember and respect the spirit of Halloween. The characters lose their memories from Hallowtide once they reenter their own worlds, so as not to alter the course of their tales. Once they're back in Hallowtide, they regain their memories and Hallowtide personas. He's running from his past. Get it? Hah.
Do heroes and villains get along in Hallowtide?
That's entirely up to you. They have free will, and their own hopes and dreams while in Hallowtide.
What's Hallowtide like?
It is similar to the Game Central Station as seen in Wreck-It Ralph. Instead of a circuit board or surge protector theme, theirs looks like the grand hall of a castle. See our Pinterest Board here. Generally, the whole dimension is confined to a castle and village, similar to what's seen in classic monster movies. Characters can choose to take up productive roles around the village, and live there, or go live in the castle, etc.
Is this game "meta"? If so, what does that mean?
Yes. Meta is a way of saying that the characters are self-aware. Also, it's another meaning for parallel universes. "Everything is everything", so to speak. Again, I refer to Wreck-It Ralph (which isn't necessary one of my favorite Disney films, but it works great in this situation) - all the characters know each other within the confines of Hallowtide. They carry out normal, daily lives amongst one another, despite having originated in very different dimensions.
How does time work?
Just like in Hallowtide, time within the game is current. Once a thread or entry is posted, however, you can take as long as you need to in order to finish it. It is, essentially, frozen in time. New threads and entries, though, should be current-dated.
Are there character journals/blogs/diaries/social media?
Halloween isn't exactly a technological celebration - however - in the spirit of RP!shenanigans, there are notebooks/journals filled with pieces of enchanted parchment that would, at this point, be common knowledge. On these papers, individuals can speak between one another when in Hallowtide, by writing down the name(s) of the person(s) in which they wish to speak. They can mark their note as 'open' and it will be completely public. Think of Tom Riddle's diary in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
Are any game-appropriate fandoms absolutely forbidden?
Yes. The world of Game of Thrones and the world of Anita Blake are not to be held/played. Laurell K. Hamilton and George R. R. Martin are on the list of authors who do not condone fanfiction. Anne Rice retracted her anti-fic statements and now allows fan works.
Can I use any PB I want?
For the most part, yes. As long as your PB matches the mood/appearance of your character, you're good to go. Celebrities who are now deceased are acceptable, for the record. A "no" might only come in to the picture if the played by doesn't make any sense or if it has been used too many times before (3+ characters, ex: Christina Ricci for Wednesday Addams, Kat Harvey, Katrina Van Tassel).
This is not a question.
I'm not a babysitter, I'm a moderator. Tag your stuff, and tag it correctly. #bitchrealness
Is there an activity check?
Not really, but if a week goes by and we don't hear from you or your characters, I'll contact you and see if you're still up for playing.
Yes. This game could be considered "crack", since the characters are not limited to their respective stories or timelines here.
Nope! But I took part in that mini!game last autumn and it was ten kinds of fun. They did a great job, and I wanted to recreate the experience in my own way, since that game is closed.
