Though he had been a vampire for hundreds of years now, Alexander had never been able to get along with his own kind. Not truly. Oh, he could play the game and recite the verses but it was all can act. It always would be. He had never been one of them. It had been his choice but that choice had been made out of necessity, not want or desire. Unless the desire for revenge counted.
He allowed Noah to rant on without interruption. The little thing only had so much room for emotion and clearly he’d let his temper boil and brew to the point of exploding and this just happened to be the breaking point for him. He didn’t care much for the display of affection but he was polite and kept his mouth shut until the little thing was done, huffing and puffing like a child who had thrown a tantrum.
When he did finally finish, Alexander turned around and raised an eyebrow at him as if to ask are you done now. Other vampires were tiresome and he despised them. Even tiny ones with angelic faces. He did have to give the little thing some credit for standing up to him, though that could be because the other vampire didn’t know him well enough. And then there was the fact that the little thing was still very young and still had threads of his humanity clinging to him. Humans were so often run by their emotions. He was sometimes envious and missed his own.
”She should be sad.” He directed his reply to Noah since it had been the little thing to yell at him. ”She should be hurting. Separation is painful.” His tone was callous, void of any emotion. Not that he wanted to appear emotionless but because it had been so long since any emotion had been properly used. He was more animal than human, relying on instinct and habit. ”And it’s a two way street.” Alexander finally lifted his sharp gaze to Charlie. ”You’re not the only one moping around like you had the life ripped out of you.”
It was harsh but it needed to be said. Yes, it was understandable that she would be more traumatized by the situation and in the scheme of things, Royce would eventually (he really hoped) and Charlie would even be dead when he still gallivanting around but the pup had given up his heart (a very dangerous and stupid thing to do) and hearts were so easily broken and not so easily fixed.
