New Hope was sure a weird place. No other town could he be having this conversation without the added fear of flying bullets aimed at him. How had the two of them managed to land in town like this? And why wasn't this town a more common name? Until actually arriving here, Royce had never even heard of this place. Or maybe it was something that everybody knew about. He and Rosemary had just not been in the right circles to hear it.
He watched Caleb count back his bills but made no move to take them. It was his intention to just leave the money there, to pay the guy for what money he had lost with Rosemary. But he had a feeling that it was going to be difficult to get the guy to actually take the money. He seemed like a decent enough person. Aside from the hunter part. Royce wondered how much experience this guy had. How old was he? Had he been hunting since he was a kid? Was it a family thing or had something happened in the guy's life? Even with knowing that he was a werewolf, the guy didn't seem to have a personal problem with him. Just Rosemary. And that was only for small stuff. Stuff she had done. Not because of what she was.
That was a comforting thought.
"Forces of evil, huh? Doesn't sound like a very lucrative job. Can't come with a lot of perks." He said off-handedly. It was more for conversation sake. Realistically, the only thing he needed to talk with the guy about had already been said. He'd apologized, in a way, for his friend's lack of polite behavior. Food had been ordered for later. Peace had been made. There was nothing more to talk about. He wasn't here to get the guy's life story. All Royce needed to know about Caleb was that he had no intention of coming after them.
So why was he still trying to keep the conversation going?
"New Hope is a neutral zone so you get a lot of sorts here." Royce shrugged. He and Rosey had been invited to join a few of the packs running around but it hadn't felt right. Maybe they had been running too long but being part of a group would have been too weird. Too familiar. "We stay out of trouble. Ah, well." He cringed. "Try to. I can usually keep an eye on Rosey but I've been hanging out with Ch- ah, someone else so I haven't been ... as ... watchful as I should be."
