For a blissful moment, there was nothing else in the world. Nothing but her stomach and the delicious burger that she was sending down in juicy, mushy bites. Ahhh, the bacon was superb. So crunchy and perfect. And the sauce? The sauce was so ... (she giggled in her head) saucy. She was so caught up in her consumption of her prize that she forgot all about the human and his throwing knives. Who could worry about dangerous stuff like that when they had their face full of a burger so delicious? She hadn't even gotten to the fries!
Alas, her head was so buried in the bag that when the clinic door opened, she didn't hear it. Oh sure, there was probably the sound of a click as the hinges swung but that was outside of the bag so there was no need to pay attention to it. If anything, she was more concerned (if there was any actual concern on her part, which obviously there wasn't) about the sound of a knife cutting through the air than of a door. People went in and out of the clinic all the time anyways. It wasn't a sound she had to worry about. Who was going to say anything about a wolf eating a burger on the hood of a truck?
Just the owner of the truck and she wasn't hearing anything from him so all was goo-
"“What the hell are you doing up there? Get off! Now! Before I tell your keeper you’ve been getting into trouble again! Go!”
The sound of Doc's booming voice surprised her so much that she ended up half-scrambling, half-falling off the hood. She would have just hopped off but when she lifted her head, the bag went with her. So with nothing to see but fries at the bottom of her food-bag, she ended up in a mess of legs, fries and fur on the ground. It was only a couple feet but it still took a few minutes to orient herself again. Rolling onto all fours, she shook the bag off her head.
She then looked back over to Doc with her head lowered, giving him a look that clearly expressed her thoughts on how unfair he was being. It wasn't like she was hurting anyone or eating any pets. She had just been trying to have some fun! What was she supposed to do? Chase butterflies? She didn't want go! There wasn't anywhere to go.
Rosemary was about to beg her way into staying but then she caught sight of the delivery boy again. One hand was in his jacket, clearly in the middle of pulling something out. Warning bells finally started going off in her head and suddenly, chasing butterflies sounded like a lot of fun.
What a buzz kill.
The delivery boy might have won this battle but there would be more battles. Snorting to the delivery boy, she turned and trotted back across the street and to the woods. At least she wasn't hungry anymore.
