He wanted the burger. She knew he wanted the burger. All that she had to do was to endure the waiting game. The human could act as stubborn and nonchalant as he wanted. He would come around. Soon, she hoped. At first she thought that he was attempting to outlast her, wait until she had lost interest but he had another thing coming if he thought she would give up so easy. Not when there was a burger on the line.
Ooooh, she could smell it from inside the bag. Bacon? Yes. BBQ something or other. Ooh yes. The aroma was making her impatient. Maybe she ought to just screw the game and stuff her face in the bag already. The Doc had already forfeited his interest and the delivery boy was busy cleaning the pavement.
Hm. That was actually intriguing. Who actually took time to clean sidewalks? That was weird. What was he cleaning up? Ketsup had squirted out of the bag when she first snatched it but that wasn't it. Her nose instantly went to the air and gave the air a few curious sniffs. Burger. Fries. Gravel. Ketsup. Copper. Pennies. No ... blood? He was cleaning blood off the sidewalk? That was more than weird. That was actually kind of paranoid.
For a moment, that was almost more interesting than the burger in the bag in front of her. But just as her curiosity began to spike about the blood-cleaning, the delivery boy was standing up and finally giving in to desire. She could have laughed. Of course, she had already known that he'd come for the burger if she just sat there long enough.
Mutt? An annoyed snarl was shot out in reply to his insult. She hated it when humans thought she was a common dog. What? Just because she was small and scrawny, he just automatically assumed that she was some kind of domesticated animal, like a puff ball? Did he see a collar? Did she look well-groomed? Well, pfft. She would show him. Mutt, indeed! There wasn't a dog out there that could even compete with her! He didn't know a thing about funny business!
She feigned disinterest as he came over. Even going so far as to turn her head. She wasn't afraid of him and she certainly wasn't worried about him taking the food-bag. Please. In his dreams was he fast enough to try. But foolishly, as all humans were, he did try. She stayed where she was, still as a statue, until the very last second, just as he reached for the bag, she shot forward and snapped the bag back in her jaws. The food-bag safely in her mouth, she turned and ran. She did a circle and then bolted for the truck. Easily, she leapt from the ground to the hood of his pick-up.
Regret this! She thought snarkily as she swished her tail at him, the burger still in her possession.
