"Tonight? Beside studying the book, not really. Dayle's hanging out with her newest boyfriend, and Tanya was spending time with her family tonight," Charlie said, naming her two friends that Royce had met on various work-related occasions.
Suddenly, her cleared schedule gave her an excellent opportunity. "Actually, I wanted to talk to you about tonight." She licked her lips and cleared her throat, feeling a little nervous about making her request. Don't be such a chicken. It's not like you're just asking him- it's Rosemary too. They're a package deal, remember? This is NOT a date. "If you and your sister are free this evening, I wanted to invite you both for dinner. You know, again." Cooking really was her only true talent, and the blandness of this truth began to set in as she realized how repetitive her one gift to the King siblings must be.
She felt the blush coming, and spun around to face her desk before it could settle in. "I mean, that's only if you want to. I know you guys have been over for, what, the last two nights? Excluding yesterday, of course. But, I just... I wanted to do something to say 'thank you', and I guess offering free meals is the only way I know how to do it. Maybe one day I'll learn how to make hats, or fix sinks, or something else useful. I don't know. I'm babbling again, aren't I?" she asked suddenly, laughing at herself.
Charlie twisted in her seat and perched her chin on her knuckles, smiling ruefully. "You have this uncanny ability to make me sound like a dork whenever I try to talk to you."
"Alright, bottom line, if you are free, if Rosemary doesn't object, and if you aren't tired of it yet, would you and your sister like to come over for dinner and dessert this evening?"
