It was a good thing that they weren't sitting in front of a mirror because the smirk on Rosemary's face may have looked a little bit too devilish for Charlie's taste. The blonde was more than just a little smug had having been able to so successfully switch the direction of their conversation that she felt she should be awarded somehow. All she had were cookies. Eh. They were good enough of an award as she was going to get.
"My brother. You know, the one you get all silly smiley around? If he asked you on a date, would you go?" She wasn't blind. Just because she was mostly around the Doc and only at knee level, that didn't mean she didn't see what had been going on between her friend and this girl. It wasn't the first crush Royce had ever had. That first one had been quite the trial. He had been up and down and all over the place. Naturally, he'd been far too shy to do anything about it. It was the mopey looks he kept sending that had been irritating. All that energy spent on a girl and he could have used that for much more fun things like helping her build a tree fort.
Maybe if he had put more focus into the tree fort, the bottom wouldn't have fallen out and they wouldn't have gotten stuck in a tree fifty feet in the air. And no, she hadn't forgotten. She still couldn't climb trees for fear of getting stuck again. If she died without ever climbing a tree, she could die happy.
Rosemary finished the two cookies, licking her fingers as they disappeared. She listened as Charlie went on, paying attention to key words. There was some notice on her part in the fact that Charlie had yet to answer the question directly. It was an easy question too. Yes or no. There wasn't an in-between answer. Charlie would either take him up on the offer and turn him down. This whole rambling of Charlie's about Royce being nice and how other people weren't normally like that, well, duh, that wasn't anything new to her. There were a lot of people that didn't give a crap about others, who did whatever they wanted and damned the consequences. Royce had never been like that. Rosemary supposed that she was a good person too but Royce was really the gold-heart of the two of them.
She heard the snap of a rubber band and then felt Charlie step away. Was she done with her hair? What had she been doing back there? It felt like a braid. Rosemary stood up and turned her head so she could grab her hair and take a look. Sure enough, Charlie had braided her hair. It sure looked pretty, all blonde and soft.
Well.
There was the question, wasn't it? Rosemary stood up and eyed the girl over her new braid. Was the question genuine? If she said no, would that mean that Charlie wouldn't go out with Royce, even if he asked? She chewed on the inside of her cheek, eyes narrowing just slightly, as she played with her hair. Would she mind if they dated? "I won't be mean about it, if that's what you mean. But if you start hogging him, I'll have a problem. I don't have anyone else."
