Who: Sarah Miller.
What: Sarah getting shot.
Where: CORE HQ, San Francisco.
When: Friday 2nd April, 2010.
Warnings: Language and violence.
James was gonna kill her for not bringing along a gun, she just knew it. Sure, she had a taser, and various Batacessories including Steph's Boomstick, but it wasn't the same as a proper projectile, kill you from a fucking distance, weapon that she actually knew how to use. She could still kick ass though and most of the really dangerous people had already been subdued by the first wave. Thank god for Betty and her team, seriously.
The lights flickered around them and Sarah was trying to be on high alert while still joking around with her friends over the comms. That was the sucky part of going in with people you know, all you want to do is correct their pronunciation of 'pwned' and hope that someone wasn't going to start singing or doing a little jig about how they were finally kicking CORE's ass. It had been a long time coming, but finally she was going to help destroy the organisation that had made so many people's lives hell for so fucking long.
"Okay, I'm heading up to the next floor. Anyone want to follow me?" She asked, but didn't wait for a response before heading up to the next floor.
Sarah tried to stay alert of herself and her team. It wouldn't be a good idea to kick Colin or Owen in the head if they'd followed her, not to mention the rest of them. People probably frowned on attacking team members, at least in the real world that wasn't DC comics. She was trying to be in full on Batgirl mode, but while Steph might be a total bamf in a cape and cowl, Sarah was still learning. If she was anyone, she was Spoiler before the Black Mask stuff. That meant a fuck up was probably just lurking around a corner, waiting to torture her with a powerdrill.
She shuddered at the thought but carried on regardless. Walking down corridors and around corners. She was strangely quiet, hearing the sounds of chatter over the radio and her footsteps while a battle raged on the floors above with the first team. She heard the person before she saw them, they were rushing and shooting wildly and she quickly pushed her teammate out of the way of the gunfire without thinking.
There was blood down her front, and it took her a moment to feel the pain from the bullet wound and she fell to the ground in shock. "Fuck... ow, just... fuck." She groaned, trying to press a hand to the wound. Stop the bleeding. Maybe just long enough for a medic to get there. "I... Jay? I'm sorry." She mumbled.
Everything was getting dark and fuzzy around the edges. Steph was screaming in the back of her head but all Sarah could do was pull out the comm. If she was going to die then Jay wasn't gonna hear it. "Tell J-James... tell him that I love him and... and..." She wasn't sure if she was talking to someone or to the darkness, but that didn't stop her from talking.
Then everything went dark and she didn't feel anything.
