Her response was not encouraging, especially considering it came through the door. This was pointless. He should just leave well enough alone and let her come around on her own, rather than trying to somehow fix it himself. She couldn't stay mad forever. Could she? Rafe scratched the back of his neck and muttered a quick, quiet 'fuck'. He was still having a hard time putting his finger on why she was upset with him. Sure, he'd kissed her, then walked away, but that was better than a lot of other alternative endings to that scenario. In between the insults, Coral had said something about her being confused. Maybe that was all, and she wasn't angry. But that wasn't any better, because he had no idea how to un-confuse her without looking like some kind of jackass.
Either way, he couldn't leave without saying something. "Just came to find out what you wanted for dinner." Which was the lamest excuse ever invented. Letting out a disgusted sigh, he leaned against the door frame. Coral had recommended an explanation. He wasn't sure what the hell he was supposed to say, but he could give it a shot. At least with the door closed he didn't have to look at her while he was trying to come up with something to say.
"Look, Kim..." Yeah, he was off to such a fantastic fucking start. "I'm sorry if I pissed you off." Getting things going with an apology had to help his case, if only a little. "I'm not...fuck. I don't know what the hell is going on, but if I keep this up, it's going to drive me crazy. So I'm sorry. For...everything."
