"Well, that's good to hear," she said. She was pleased with his handshake. Firm, vital, good eye contact...she didn't often allow more contact than that, so when she encountered a man with a limp handshake, it was kind of a turn-off. Jeff's? Jeff's was not bad. Not bad at all.
"Hopefully I'll be able to make it up to you tonight," she heard herself say, and while she meant it mostly innocently, she realized belatedly how it might sound. Oh well. The conversation had moved on--so she attempted to catch up. "I had dinner a few hours ago, but I could go for something light, to tide me over."
