Who: Max Cooper and Margo Tandy
What: Max comes for a visit, 'The Talk' ensues.
When: Tuesday, late afternoon.
Where: Mount Sinai hospital, Margo's room.
Warnings: None.
Margo was bored. She'd been awake for days, which was great, except for the fact that the doctors still made grumbly noises every time she mentioned going home. They didn't even want her to go stay with her parents, not until they made doubley sure that she wasn't going to relapse and get sick again. She couldn't blame them, exactly. After all, it wasn't like anyone outside the reincarnate community knew why she'd gotten sick like she did, and there were only a very select few of those people who knew why it had hit her so hard and so fast. She was also still feeling a bit weak. So, until everyone was satisfied that she wasn't going to fall in to another coma, she was stuck in that bland white room with a needle in her arm and the constant beep of monitors to keep her company.
There were a few things to keep her amused, of course. She had a phone with internet access (thanks to Thomas and his excellent smuggling skills), so she was able to keep in touch with the rest of the reincarnate community. That was nice. It helped her to know that most of the other people who'd gotten sick were starting to get better, too. She also had a collection of books to flip through, her family's contribution. They'd brought her a sketch book, too, which was what occupied most of her time when she didn't have visitors or hospital staff in there to chat with her. And, of course, there was always Inara, though she was never overly chatty. They could share memories, though, which was enjoyable. Especially when she started converting those memories to paper. It made them both feel better to actually see the things they were thinking of, even when it was only a drawing.
At the moment, she had the sketch book open, a picture of the kitchen on board Serenity rapidly taking form. That was where Inara's best memories came from, when everyone was sitting around talking, just enjoying each other's company. It had been almost like that, back when she'd been visiting in Texas. Margo hoped they got more chances to do that. She was very glad that she liked the other reincarnates just as much as Inara liked the people that she'd spent so much time with. She'd earned more friends in that week than she had in the last year at Columbia, which just went to show how the reincarnate deal could have a couple of perks. While she'd never been particularly miserable, she had to admit that she was much happier now that she'd met everyone.
When the door swung open again, she glanced over warily, expecting someone in scrubs to be there to administer some new and exciting test. Instead, it was Max. The wariness was gone instantly, replaced by a wide smile. "Hey! I was wondering if you were still around."
