As Matilda walked up the three flights of stairs to her apartment, she smiled. Her impromptu two-day vacation with Clyde had been just what she needed. Not only had he made her feel extraordinarily better about her situation with Jack, they'd also gotten a lot of important work done, and for Matilda, that was the definition of a successful holiday. Relaxing, yet productive - and, surprisingly, fun. It was almost frightening how well, how easily she and Clyde got along. She felt completely comfortable around him, and she had to admit, she'd never felt like that around anyone before, let alone an almost complete stranger. She didn't mind, though. She deserved a friend like that.
She made it to her floor relatively quickly and began to dig her keys out of her purse. She could have just Apparated into her flat, of course, but that required concentration, and all Matilda wanted right now was a long, hot bath. Shreveport, though pleasant, was hot, and she was not accustomed to sweating so much for such a long period time. Still, that made her feel accomplished. She'd actually sweated over her work today. It was a nice feeling.
Pulling her keys out of her purse, she walked up to her door, heard... something coming from inside, and paused, stomach clenching. There was no way she had left her stereo on before she left for Shreveport, and there was no way she hadn't locked her door either. She reached for the doorknob and turned it. Unlocked. "Shit," she muttered, and she pulled Luna's wand out of her purse as she swung the door open.
Oddly, the flat was pitch black, as if the stereo was loud enough to light up the darkness. The dim light from the hallway did nothing to illuminate her foyer, so she shut the door and blindly reached for the light switch on the wall. She flipped the switch, and there was her ex-husband, lounging on her sofa as if he owned the place. She dropped her purse on the floor and scoffed bitterly, while surreptitiously moving her hand behind her back to hide her wand. "Jack. What the fuck do you think you're doing here?"
