The problem with housing brilliant mind in one's head, Layla had discovered quite early on, was that he often had problem with doing something he did not want to do without a good reason. 'Because I want to' rarely held water for Layla with Holmes, for the man firmly believed that everything had a reason, even if the reason wasn't evident at the time. So, she entered into such a debate on Saturday evening while she was getting ready to go out.
A war is brewing. The distinct voice--if one could call it a voice, if it was only in one's head--of Sherlock Holmes was not easy to ignore, but Layla had worked out how. He would wear himself out eventually, or rather, accept his defeat. And by then, Layla would be dancing with the dashing Dash Mulligan.
"A war, Sherlock, is on, not just brewing. It has percolated, even, and is ready to serve," Layla spoke smoothly, as was her way, very business like in tone as she leaned into the mirror to put on her makeup. She smirked a bit at the amusement she could feel from Holmes. He did like it when she went with his metaphors.
Makeup done, Layla stood back from the mirror and looked herself over. She wore a simple black dress, a red ribbon tied around the high waist for an accent of colour--matched by her lipstick--with a pearl necklace and two gold bracelets, her heels high and black as the dress. She figured she should look enticing enough to give Dash all the more reason to come out on the dance floor, and she was relatively certain she had done well.
So, grabbing her keys, Layla was out the door and to her car, a red Viper that was her indulgence beyond her shoes and one that Sherlock at least appreciated a bit, if only because it saved her from walking in her heels much. She pulled up in front of the home of Dash Mulligan and got out of the car, heels clicking on the pavement as she briskly walked to the man's door to give a few knocks.
