Farley learned a long time ago that when you're out of your league, it's best to just go with the flow. Don't stop. Don't stare. Don't question. Just go. Why else would he be here in New York City, walking through freaking Central Park at this ungodly hour of the night? Why else would he be meeting some girl who claimed to be Zatanna Zatara, in the same way that he was supposedly Jim Gordon? Why else would he have joined up with that bizarre Agency with all of its so-called "reincarnates" in the first place? All things considered, there was no question that Farley was completely out of his league - but luckily, in this particular situation, Jim Gordon wasn't, so for the first time in their mutual existence, Farley actually listened to Gordon and let him take the reins for once. Unlike Farley, the commissioner had a lot of useful expertise in shady locales, and boy, Central Park after midnight was about as shady a place as you could possibly get.
Right. First things first, Trask. Act like you belong here. If these hoods suspect anything otherwise, they'll pounce, and that'll be the end of you and me. And look, kid, it shouldn't be too hard, you don't just look like a criminal with your torn jeans and leather jacket, you are one too, so loosen up and stop acting skittish!
Farley resented the advice, but he relaxed his shoulders and slowed his pace like Gordon wanted. The commissioner was right; there was no sense in letting a bunch of druggies mug him for no good reason. And he was right about the other thing too, but Farley chose to ignore that.
Good. Now. Keep an eye out for the girl, but don't act like you're looking for her. Hopefully she's in a relatively public place, maybe a bridge or a -
Farley cut Gordon off - not because his advice was annoying (which it was), but because it was unnecessary. At that moment, he spotted her. Of course, in the dark, he couldn't really tell if it was her or not, but he had a feeling that it was - even from their brief conversation earlier, Farley already knew that Andi was the kind of person to sit on top of a bench rather than on the seat of it. Smiling wryly to himself, he walked over to her and said as soon as he was within earshot, "Some welcoming committee you are, darlin'. Or didn't you notice, this whole place has 'unwelcome' written all over it?"
