“Please, let us stay!”
“I'm sorry, Mrs Churchill, but Alex was very specific...he wants to be alone.”
Alex closed his eyes, turned away from the door beneath the blanket. His parents were arguing with the doctor, pleading to stay – but that was the last thing he wanted. He wanted to be – wanted to die alone. No brothers, no parents, no doctors.
Just...
Breathing hurt. Everything hurt, every cell of his body falling apart. Even his hair seemed to ache, though he guessed that was just in his head. Hair had no nerve endings to feel pain with...didn't it? He couldn't remember.
Of course it doesn't. Stop thinking stupid thoughts, Alex told himself, forcing himself to lie still. Moving – thrashing – didn't do any good. It didn't stop him feeling like he was about to die.
You asked for this.
“Alex?” Dr Saito's voice was calm, and quiet, and the (young and pretty forever) seventeen year old turned back to look at him. “Your parents are gone. Are you ready?”
The blonde's green eyes darted to the syringe lying on the table beside him. He'd spent close to an hour staring at it, while the final details were discussed and finalised between the court lawyers and the hospital staff. The (poison) liquid was completely clear; it might have been water. Or tears.
It was going to kill him.
"No," he said quietly, swallowing hard. "I'm - can we wait a little longer? Someone...One of my friends said he'd be here."
