Who: Dita Reese and Greg Everett
What: Clearing a few things up after their last training session
When: Saturday Night
-ring ring-
"Hello?"
"Hi, Greg."
"Oh. Hey, Dita."
"Expecting someone?"
"Nah, not really. How are you doin'?"
"Honestly?"
"Unless you really feel like lyin'."
"Not so good. I haven't seen you since the gun range, haven't really talked to you since then, and I'm a little worried about you, and miss you." -small sigh, as if that had taken a lot out of her or lifted a weight-
"Yeah. Look, I'm sorry about that. I didn't... I didn't mean to freak out on you like that."
"I don't think anyone ever means to freak out on anyone. Greg, you could have talked to me; you didn't have to go in there, you know?"
"I know. I wanted to do it. I didn't think it'd be a problem. Figured everything had changed now."
"What do you mean? Everything had changed?"
"The last time I held a gun was before I met Kaylee. And the last time she did was before she met me. A lot has changed since then."
"I know about Kaylee. I know when and why. But, you? What's going on, Greg?" -concern definitely in her voice.-
"It's not..." -pause- "It's just... I had a gun for awhile. Bought it promisin' myself there were only two people I might ever use one on. Decided pretty quick against the one. The other I got my mind changed for me. Changed a lot." -sigh- "Anyway, guess that's a promise I need to keep."
"Not something you want to talk about? You know, I'm not so dysfunctional that you can't talk to me, right? I have my issues, but I care about you."
"I... thanks. I care about you too. And I trust you, it just ain't exactly my favorite topic of conversation. I was thinkin' it wasn't a problem anyway."
"It is though. Whatever it is. I can only think of a few reasons anyone would buy a gun. Greg, I like having you around..." -well, she had a few ideas about guns-
"It is. Which is why I'd rather stay away from guns, I suppose." -her ideas are clearly on the right track- "I'm not goin' anywhere, Dita. I got more than myself to worry about now anyway. I'd never do anything that meant hurtin' Kaylee. She deserves better."
"She deserves a lot, but so do you. I understand if you don't want to train with me anymore in general; your friend could probably help you."
"Maybe that's a good idea." -pause- "I'm sure you got lots of other folks to train anyway."
-nothing for a few moments- "Wait. That's it? Really? Is it because I saw you break down? Do you not like training with me? What?"
"Nah, it's not that. Just, I think we've gone about as far as we can go with that. It's kinda distractin', with you. My minds not really on the lessons. It might be better if I found some other clever excuse to see you more often instead."
-pause, again- "Oh. Oh! I..well..you could just come see me because you want to see me."
"I could do that. Assuming you want to see me..."
"Of course, I want to see you. I have a small box of cookies here, and was going to dare an MTN to see you if you didn't talk to me."
-small laugh- "Now that is devotion, braving your nemesis. I'm sorry I didn't talk to you. Kinda went to a bad place there. Not gonna' say everything has changed. Enough has though, and all for the better. Hell, if nothin' had changed I wouldn't have met you, and that would have been a damn shame."
"Yes, cause I'm the light in your life." -she laughed softly- "No, I think Kaylee's that. I'm just the chick you like pinning on occasion."
"Mhm, yes, occasionally. A man can't live on sunshine alone anyway."
"A little pain with your pleasure? And, yes, I was going to get on the MTN to hunt you down and find out what the hell was going on. I like you too much to let you disappear."
"A little spice with my sugar." -another soft laugh- "That's only fair. I like you too much to disappear for long."
"I missed you." -soft voice-
"We better start that whole me showing up just because I like you thing as soon as possible in that case."
"Don't want to make you think you have to."
"It is such a chore, sweetness, but I think I can manage it." -teasing-
"Plus, you know you'll have a good meal at the end of it." -pause- "Greg, if or when you want to talk about it, I'm here. I'm here for you."
-matching pause- "Thanks. That means a lot. Everything, actually."
"So, when am I going to see you?"
"We have got some time to make up for. Should I head out the door right now?"
"I can't say a definite 'no' to that. I don't want you to make the trip just because I'm sitting here, lonely, and wishing you were here to snuggle with while watching some lame ass movie."
"Well, I could make the trip for that and for some cookies, maybe. There are all sorts of incentives."
"Well, there are always cookies for you. I might fix some waffles - I have frozen strawberries."
"You do know how to bribe us proper, don't you." -laugh- "I'll see you in a little bit."
"I'll be at the office for you - ignore my pjs."
"No problem there."
"See you soon then."
