"Hello?"
"Hey, babe. Wanted to make sure you're okay."
"Hey, chief. I'm all right. How are you?" [Evasive much?]
"Yeah, I'll bet. Weddin's, exorcisms, all in a stewardess' regular line of work, right?"
"Weddings, maybe. The exorcism was a first." [She sighs.] "I'm okay. Really. Just tired, I guess.
"The kid okay?"
"Her wrist is in a cast again, and she's absolutely bored out of her gourd, but she's a trooper. I tell you, this responsibility thing...? It's kind of a new one for me. Am I being too overprotective? Not enough? It's exhausting!"
"How old is she?"
"Eighteen...ish. Why?"
"Overprotective. Girl needs to learn to take care of herself, babe. Not sayin' throw her out of the nest, but damn."
"I can't just leave Adam to teach her how to defend herself against demons. He barely knew any of that himself! And I know Tracy taught her the basics before Lilith took her out, and Sammy with her, but..." [Another sigh.] "I know. I'm turning into a smother-mother. I just don't want her to think she's got to go it alone like those douche-bag brain brothers of Adam's."
"Of course, she doesn' have to be alone, Becca, but, babe, she's not gonna get confidence if y'all keep rescuin' her either. Gotta make her man up." -soft sigh- "Easier said than done, I'm sure, but you gotta let her fight some. You also might wanna tell the douches that she exists."
"I've been taking her kickboxing with me. And she's already introduced herself to Jimmy, so it's just Annie that I'm not so sure about. Somehow I don't think it's a good idea for me to get too friendly with Annie, since she's got the douche who wants me dead."
"Don' they both want Ruby dead? It's not you, babe, it's the black magic bitch in your head. Remember, it's not you, it's her. Don' think it'll hurt her to know them. Prolly won' hurt her not to know them, but they're part of her life a lil, bein' who they are upstairs."
"Judging by my memory of Sam holding us for Dean to gank? Yeah. It's hard to remember it's not me when Ruby lets me live her nightmares. Jimmy seems nice enough but I'm still not sure if I can really trust anyone--myself included. It's complicated."
"Yeah, it always is. Now, babe, are you sure you're okay?"
"...not really, no."
"What is wrong, babe?"
"I'm just...tired. Tired is not good. It's easier to slip up and let my guard down when I'm tired. And...all this talk about secrets...I don't even know where to start."
"Babe, how bout I come hang out this weekend? I'm in Arizona, wouldn' be much of a drive to hit Cali. So, whatcha say? I come letcha sleep?"
"That would be nice, actually. Except I hope I wouldn't sleep the whole time."
"Well, no shit, but you could get more'n you have been?"
"Maybe. I just...don't want to have to chain myself in a lead-lined coffin covered in crosses, runes, and rock-salt. You know? I'm exaggerating, but you get the idea."
"Yeah. No. Look, babe, I'm just tryin' to help."
"I'm sorry. I don't mean to be so negative. I appreciate it. And I'd love to see you. Maybe it'll be easier for me to talk some of this out in person."
"Then I guess I'll see you this weekend. We can take the kid out somewhere."
"Sounds like a plan. I hate to beg off early but I'm kind of jet-lagged. Maybe I should try that 'sleep' thing before you get here."
"No problem; you just look after yourself. I'll see you this weekend. Sleep sweet, Becca."
"Thanks, Clyde, you too."
"Night, babe."
